Longtime fans of author Rick Riordan's work all seem to agree that the Percy Jackson movies starring Logan Lerman didn't exactly do the books justice. With that in mind, the huge level of excitement surrounding Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians makes perfect sense, especially based on what we've seen so far.
As a means of building hype, Disney has just released a new motion poster (via SFFGazette.com) which puts the show's three leads front and centre. Those are, of course, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri).
It's a suitably moody sneak peek and one which suggests this take on the material will be more in line with what Riordan has put down on the page.
The first two episodes are set to premiere on Wednesday, December 20, though that could change seeing as both Ahsoka and Loki season 2 ended up moving to Tuesdays and Thursdays rather than the originally announced Wednesdays and Fridays.
Thus appears to be a new strategy on Disney+'s part to ensure the streamer's bigger shows can be enjoyed at prime time rather than in the early hours.
Riordan - whose books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide - worked closely with the creative team and showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz to bring his books to life and deliver a series that stays true to his vision for these heroic characters that millions of book fans know and love. The first two episodes were written by Riordan and Steinberg and directed by James Bobin.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who's just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god, Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.
