Earlier today, Namit Malhotra unveiled the first look teaser trailer for his highly anticipated epic Ramayana, a two-part feature adaptation of the epic poem that has shaped the cultural and spiritual fabric of India for millennia.

Stepping into the legendary role of Lord Rama is Ranbir Kapoor, one of India's biggest and most versatile stars. Speaking on this once in a lifetime opportunity, Kapoor said, “I don’t think I’m here to represent Rama. I’m here to learn from him. There is a simplicity and purity to him that is very rare; and trying to understand and imbibe that has been a deeply humbling experience.

In addition to Kapoor, the main cast consists of Yash (Ravana), Sai Pallavi (Sita), Sunny Deol (Hanuman), and Ravie Dubey (Lakshamana).

Nitesh Tiwari directed the two-part cinematic franchise, while Namit Malhotra handled scripting duties. The film is produced by Prime Focus Studios, in association with eight-time Academy Award®-winning production and visual effects studio DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

To further establish this project as a global endeavor, Hans Zimmer & A.R. Rahman have been tapped to compose the music, while action is helmed by Hollywood’s leading stunt directors Terry Notary and Guy Norris.

Ramayana - Part 1 hits theaters Diwali 2026 (November 6, 2026), with Ramayana - Part 2 set to arrive Diwali 2027 (October 29, 2027).

Watch the teaser trailer below:

From visionary producer and film-maker Namit Malhotra comes RAMAYANA: PART 1, a sweeping, two-part cinematic event inspired by one of the world’s most enduring epics.

Since the beginning of time, the Trinity Gods rule the three worlds; Brahma - god who creates; Vishnu - god who protects and Shiva - god who transforms. As the realms of heaven, earth edge toward chaos, the Trinity god Vishnu descends to earth in an avatar to restore balance. This time, Vishnu is reborn as RAMA (Ranbir Kapoor), a human prince destined to restore balance. Opposing him, stands the most formidable, learned, undefeatable and immortal demon king RAVANA (Yash), blessed by the Trinity themselves, driven by pride and a vengeance powerful enough to shatter the cosmos.

Unaware of his true purpose as the only opponent destined to stand up to Ravana in a fateful cosmic design; Rama is the idol of Dharma (duty above all) and the most loved crown prince of Ayodhya, the greatest human dynasty of the time. Rama tries to build a life of quiet honor with his beloved wife Sita (Sai Pallavi) and loyal brother Lakshman (Ravie Dubey) amongst others, until a twist of fate drives him into exile and toward an inevitable clash with Ravana in a reckoning so cataclysmic, it will decide the destiny of gods and mortals.

Ramayana is one of the most ambitious films in the history of Indian cinema, bringing together some of the biggest names in global entertainment to portray characters that have shaped storytelling across generations.

There’s still some rough VFX shots here & there but I’m not gonna judge it too harshly right now since the movie is still 7 months or so away…

Other then that , I like the look of this as someone who is not Hindu and is treating this more or less as just a fantasy film so I’m interested in checking it out.

Plus , I’m a fan of Ranbir Kapoor so to have him as the lead of this is exciting aswell!!.

@Kadara - Yeah, this is so non iclusive! How dare they make a movie about Hindu gods without reflecting how the modern world looks like!
How am I suppoused to watch a movie if I cannot identify with any of the gods? 🥺

SpiderParker - 4/2/2026, 5:33 PM
@Floke - Pretty sure the gods are usually portrayed as Blue Skinned so you wouldn't identify with them either way even if they were (comic?)-accurate portrayals.

@Floke - If you feel blue sometimes, then that means you must feel black, brown, white, red and a billion other colors at other times too. So, it shouldn't matter how they are portrayed as it will represent you in one way or the other and that is what truly matters. (^_^)

@DocSpock - Looks great visually and as a pesky norse, Ive grown up forced to get use to subtitels. But come on... This has to be one of the least inclusive movies Ive seen in decades. 😒 Come on Bollywood, be braver and diversier!

Over 1.4 Billion Chinese made Ne Zha 2 the highest grossing movie worldwide in 2025. 💪

Ball's in your court, about 2 Billion people combined in the subcontinent! 🤨

My favourite adaptation of Ramayana in the visual medium would have to be the anime version directed by Yuko Sato in 1993. Having said that they should try and adapt Mahabaharata. That is significantly more complex and nuanced than Ramayana.

No, seriously. There isn't a clip longer than two seconds in this trailer. AI
