Tim Burton is said to be moving ahead with a live-action version of the popular fairy tale, while
The Avengers' Robert Downey Jr. is his top choice to portray Gepetto, the woodcarver who creates Pinocchio.
The Hollywood Reporter also reveal that this version (being developed by Warner Bros., a studio the actor has close ties with thanks to his role in the
Sherlock Holmes movies) will feature a Geppetto who,
"embarks on a quest to reunite with his missing marionette."
At this point, neither Burton or the actor has a solid deal with the studio but talks are apparently ongoing.
Pinocchio is expected to be the
Batman director's next movie, but if he doesn't decide to start work on it soon and instead prioritises another project, the studio may start looking for a replacement. Downey meanwhile is said to have expressed a great deal of interest should his hectic schedule allow it. Stay tuned for more details as they develop.
