Tim Burton is said to be moving ahead with a live-action version of the popular fairy tale, while The Avengers' Robert Downey Jr. is his top choice to portray Gepetto, the woodcarver who creates Pinocchio. The Hollywood Reporter also reveal that this version (being developed by Warner Bros., a studio the actor has close ties with thanks to his role in the Sherlock Holmes movies) will feature a Geppetto who, "embarks on a quest to reunite with his missing marionette."

At this point, neither Burton or the actor has a solid deal with the studio but talks are apparently ongoing. Pinocchio is expected to be the Batman director's next movie, but if he doesn't decide to start work on it soon and instead prioritises another project, the studio may start looking for a replacement. Downey meanwhile is said to have expressed a great deal of interest should his hectic schedule allow it. Stay tuned for more details as they develop.

No,no,no,no,no,no. No Tim! That's a bad Tim! I am sick to death of crappy Tim Burton remakes. Seriously, somebody needs to stop Tim Burton. Not everything needs to be remade with a crappy story and a gothic atmosphere.

Tim Burton's last good movie was Beatlejuice. Why does he get paid to direct mediocre piles of shit. Was not remaking Sleepy Hollow, Planet of The Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland into cinematic abortions not enough?

Burton has lost his creativity.

All he can do is re-make , re-tell, re-boot and re-hash material.

Probably re-make 'Dumbo' next.

Burton is trolling at this point.

@Ridiculousfanboy Beetlejuice is my personal favorite Burton film.

I dunno what to think of this. I'm guessing Depp is gonna be Pinnochio and Danny Elfman Is gonna be the music composer.

Batman, Pee-Wee Herman's Big Adventure, and Beetlejuice are my only favorite Burton films.

Wow, this is now the THIRD Pinocchio Production in the pipeline. A prequel and 2 "reimagings/reboots", One by Del Torro and now one by Burton. This is getting reeeeeaaalllly rediculous with all these "dark and twisted" fairy tale retellings/reboots...

I don't mind the fairy tale movies...Because I love fairy tales.

But, Robert Downey Jr. in Pinocchio?
That is weird...

Never been a Pinocchio fan though.
So, whatever...It would be interesting to see who would play the Blue Fairy!

@antonio

Yes, it was Big Fish and it is easily Burton's best movie in the past 20 years. I actually enjoyed that movie, because it wasn't completely gothic or weird. I wish Burton would make more movies like than, instead of his assembly line of unnecessary remakes with a gothic edge.

Tim Burton in my eyes has made two great films, Beatlejuice and Big Fish. A mediocre Batman, an Overrated Edward Scissor Hands and Ed Wood, and a string of god awful remakes that were completely unnecessary.

I'm sick of Burton but that doesn't mean he hasn't made some great movies, in fact his good far out-ways the bad imo. Both Batmans, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood (a damn masterpiece), Big Fish, Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow and Sweeny Todd are all movies I enjoyed a great deal.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 1/6/2012, 8:02 PM
@RorMachine

Let's see if his "good" out weighs his bad.

Good:
Beatlejuice
Big Fish
Ed Wood (I'll give that to you for arguments sake)
Batman 89 (another one I will give to you, because at the time I loved it. However, it does not hold up well at all).

Bad:
Planet of The Apes
Alice in Wonderland
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Batman Returns (sorry man this movie was awful in every way shape and form in my opinion).

The Mediocre:
Sleepy Hollow
Sweeny Todd
Pee Wees Big Adventure
Edward Scissorhands
Mars Attacks
Corpse Bride

I would say his good and bad cancel out and all that is left is a mediocre director, who acts like he is better than he truly is.

Also, I left out nightmare before Christmas because Burton co wrote and had a hand in the design of the film. He did not direct it, and I think if he had it would have been a much worse film. I know I hate on Burton a lot, it's just that I feel he doesn't work as hard as he can. He has phoned in his last 3 movies, and instead of trying to write original material like Big Fish, he resorts to just terrible remakes.
