Nikolaj Arcel, director of foreign stand-out film A Royal Affair, is very close to signing on to direct and rewrite the script for Sony's adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.  If Arcel does board the project, perhaps he'll cast his Royal Affair stars Mads Mikkelsen and and Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander?  It's also likely that Arcel will rewrite the latest draft of the script which was last completed by Jeff Pinkner and Akiva Goldsman.  Though Arcel's arrival would mean Ron Howard's departure, Sony is still moving forward with the latter's plan to tell the complete novel eries through both multiple films and a TV series.

We'll have more details as the story develops. Maybe we'll finally get some official casting news and a release date for the long gestating project?
