There has been a lot of talk when The Hobbit might start shooting,and today executive producer of the film Peter Jackson talked to Moviefone.com and confirmed that the script is complete and he also talked about the date to start the production:

"We've just delivered the script. Literally last week, we delivered the second of the two screenplays -the first draft.So the studio's got both scripts now, which is a milestone; and if anything was holding it up, it was us doing the screenplays, because we'd just been writing as fast as we can, but it took us this long to get them finished. So we take whatever responsibility there is for the speed. And we're now in the process of budgeting the films, and then hopefully we'll get to a budget the studio [people] are happy with, and they'll greenlight the movies and we'll announce the shooting dates.I'd be pretty optimistic that we'll be shooting before the end of the year. I would imagine October,November,we'd be shooting by. I'm not announcing it, though."

Also he says that the film has never actually been announced:

"Well, it's not really been delayed, because we've never announced the date. I mean it's sort of interesting because the studio [MGM] has never greenlit 'The Hobbit,' so therefore 'The Hobbit' has never been officially announced as a "go" project, nor have we ever announced a date. But there's so much interest that people -- newspapers and magazines, of their own account, say, ah, it's likely to film in May, it's likely to film in June, it's likely to film in September. People make this stuff up. And then if it's not filming in June, you get a story saying, "'The Hobbit's' been delayed." But it's never actually been announced."

I hope everything goes as planned and that they start shooting the film as soon as possible!

i'm excited for this film!
ever since i rewatched and reread the books/films i have been interested in how faithful they's stay to the book.
granted, LOTR was a LOT to absorb even in the film, and they skipped A LOT!
but since they're making this a two parter, with the first being based off the book and the second bridging the sixty year gap between The Hobbit and LOTR.
i just sincerely hope that Jackson has managed to mention Attercop!
if you've read the book, you should know what i'm talking about. if not, Bilbo jibes giant spiders by calling them Attercop!

Sounds good. I am excited for this to finally happen. Now it just seems we have to wait for MGM to be purchased.

I'm also really excited to see the White Council story collected together as one big side story for this.

@Wadey09

I think they have changed plans as far as a bridge movie. I don't have a link but del Toro has talked about how it will be a two part Hobbit with White Council included.

I think it would be cool if they did this and then five years from now release a bridge movie... but that's probably not going to happen.

I cannot wait until this movie is out. del Toro has an awesome eye for creatures and Peter Jackson knows hot to flush out a script. I have the original Hobbit cartoon on DVD and its my favorite, but I cannot wait until this comes to the theater.

Sweet. Straight from the horse's mouth means it's probably pretty concrete:

"Literally last week, we delivered the second of the two screenplays -the first draft.So the studio's got both scripts now, which is a milestone"

So it sounds like they're still on for BOTH films. Just speculating, but hopefully they'll shoot them together like they did with LOTR.

God, think of how far things have come even since LOTR - it's going to be a spectacle of spectacles.

@johan02

Relax dude. MGM is in the middle of trying to figure out what to do. They are probably going to get bought by another company. Until that is all settled no Hobbit or Bond. Luckily WB is maybe going to buy them.. they also bought New Line, so it will be one big family of studios.

It's going to be made, and soon. The greenlight won't happen until MGM is figured out. Read up on it.
