The Northman is set to slash its way into theatres in The UK and Ireland this Friday, and Focus Features (via SFF Gazette) has now released a final trailer and a pair of clips spotlighting plenty of new footage from Robert Eggers' acclaimed Viking revenge tale.
The trailer also highlights some of the praise that's been heaped upon the movie by critics, with many hailing The Lighthouse director's latest as a masterpiece. The clips are also well worth a watch, but beware that one, in particular, is heavy on spoilers (that said, this story was the inspiration for Hamlet, so you probably already know what happens).
Set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century, Alexander Skarsgård plays the Viking prince Amleth, who witnesses his father's (Hawke) murder at the hands of his own brother (Claes Bang) as a child and vows vengeance. He returns as an adult alongside a fellow warrior played by Anya-Taylor Joy, and begins his bloody campaign to rescue his mother Queen Gudrun (Kidman) and claim his birthright.
Check out the new trailer and extended clips below, and be sure to drop back for our review of the film this weekend.
The Northman also stars Murray McArthur, Ian Gerard Whyte, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, and Kate Dickie. The movie is set to hit theatres on April 15 in The UK and April 22 in the US.
