The first trailer for The Shape of Water has been released, and you'd be forgiven for thinking this was actually an Abe Sapien origin story!

The movie is the latest project to be written, produced, and directed Guillermo del Toro, and focuses on a mute woman (Sally Hawkins) who gets a job as a cleaner in a high-security government laboratory where secret experiments are being conduced on some type of aquatic creature, who does happen to look a lot like the aforementioned Hellboy character.

The Shape of Water is set for a December 8 release, and also stars Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Del Toro regular Doug Jones.

@agent025 - Pans Labyrinth is one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. Beautiful but really, really sad. This looks like another winner from Del Toro.

@agent025 - it premiered with war of the planet of the apes. nearly shit in my pants finding this out. looks amazing.

seems like the prequel to hellboy or a remake of creature from the black lagoon

@EnnisFan - Same here. Loved it. Now I really want Del Toro to make a Bioshock: Rapture movie. I already need him to remake Neverending story. Sigh....

I wonder if Michael Shannon ever gets sick of playing asshole lol. This looks great I really like the look of the film, it looks like a Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie.

I love Doug Jones. He never gets as much recognition as he should. A great actor and probably the nicest guy that's ever lived.

This definitely makes the Hellboy 3 news sting a bit less.

@Hawkguy - i feel like he's Andy Serkis during the LOTR years where he wasn't appreciated enough. Now Andy gets his due and hopefully Doug will soon.

@BlackBeltJones - Looks very sinister, I Imagine the book must be quite Morbid. Nesbo as an author is celebrated, might check out his books
