Is Heated Rivalry Star Connor Storrie Playing Danny Ketch In Marvel Studios' Ghost Rider Reboot?

Could Connor Storrie be playing Danny Ketch rather than the villain in Marvel's Ghost Rider reboot? A new theory suggests Ryan Gosling's Johnny Blaze could clash with his successor.

The news broke yesterday that Marvel Studios' Ghost Rider reboot will star Heated Rivalry's Connor Storrie as the movie's villain. Speculation has since run rampant about who he's playing, with Mephisto's son, Blackheart, among the most popular suggestions.

Murphy's Multiverse has shared a very compelling theory today, arguing that Storrie may have been cast as the MCU's Danny Ketch.

As a reminder, Danny became the second Ghost Rider when he was introduced in Ghost Rider #1 in 1990. After discovering a mystical motorcycle in a Brooklyn cemetery, Ketch was transformed into the Spirit of Vengeance, gaining supernatural abilities and a hellfire-powered ride. Unlike Johnny Blaze, Ketch's powers were tied to the mysterious Spirit of Vengeance Zarathos.

"In early production leaks, characters who spend the first two acts of a script in opposition to the hero are routinely categorised as antagonists or villains by studio sources," the site posits. "And technically, they’re not wrong. Jean Grey was Peter Parker’s primary antagonist in Spider-Man: Brand New Day."

"Placing Storrie in the shoes of a misunderstood anti-hero hunted by Johnny Blaze, Gosling’s veteran Rider, for two acts isn’t just wishful thinking; it is ripped directly from the pages of Ghost Rider’s 1990s comic renaissance," the report continues, correctly pointing out that Johnny and Danny—later revealed to be brothers—initially clashed upon meeting.

A story like this would avoid repeating what we saw in 2007's Ghost Rider movie and, crucially, give Marvel Studios more than one Ghost Rider moving forward. Or, as the site puts it, "Gosling anchors the launch; Storrie carries the flaming chain into the future. Gosling... remains available for supernatural team-ups, such as the long-rumoured Midnight Sons."

It's a great idea, but only time will tell whether it pans out (as you can see below, one scooper has already thrown water on the fire). Still, if Gosling doesn't want to make a long-term commitment to the MCU, he can introduce a seasoned Johnny here before passing the torch to one of Hollywood's rising stars.

We'll see what happens, but we know this is a passion project for Gosling. "I am going to let Ryan reveal what he wants to reveal, when he wants to reveal it," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said at Comic-Con, "and what he wanted to reveal today is that he’s playing Ghost Rider. He is a huge fan of the comics; he did come to us with a specific vision, based on some particular comics."

"It was Gosling who had the vision. It was Gosling who had the pitch that won over Shawn, that had them come and pitch us this idea, which led to us on stage," he added.

Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, Ghost Rider is set to race into theaters on July 28, 2028.

I mean...I kinda buy it being Daniel in some ways. Would make sense to dwell more into the Zarathos mythos and have Johnny understand one thing about it but be completely caught off guard when there is another Ghost Rider out there.

So I see that. Or I see more ties to Zadkiel or like someone mentioned the other day, The Orb, would be a good choice.

Johnny Blaze needs to be the ONLY MCU Ghost Rider. If they muddle the character for their stupid Hollywood reasons, they will ruin Ghost Rider instead of reviving the character and making him great.

@DocSpock - Hey! - I was 8 when Danny Ketch burst onto the scene so I'm nostalgic but in the 90s, Danny Ketch was freakin huge. Also, fun fact: the longest running Ghost Rider comic series ever was centered around Danny Ketch, not Blaze (though Blaze obviously has more years on ketch and had a very respectable 81 issue run through the 70s-early 80s).

Nobody cares about Robbie Reyes really but I'm telling you, its not just Blaze that Ghost Rider fans wanna see. Its also very much Danny Ketch! - including this guy!!!

@Lucasberg -

Shh, don't tell them that it was Danny's run that invented the Penance Stare...

@Lucasberg -

I understand the facts having read every marvel and DC comic from about 1960 on. I understand how good different runs of Ghost Rider were. But I feel if the MCU tries to run 2-3 Ghost riders out there on the big screen, it will be confusing. We don't even know if Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider starring huge star Ryan Gosling will work and be successful. The general audience has not read all the thousands of comics that we have.

@DocSpock - Thats a reasonable point but I actually think the best chance for Ghost Rider to succeed is for both Blaze and Ketch to have a hand in this.

@TemporarilyHere - good point. That actually is possibly the most dramatically powerful tool in Ghost Rider's arsenal.

Stopped reading after "Murphy's Multiverse has shared a very compelling theory today".

Theories aren't news.

""It was Gosling who had the vision. It was Gosling who had the pitch that won over Shawn, that had them come and pitch us this idea, which led to us on stage, " --- is this is true, then why would be cast a 2nd ghost rider to replace him or pass the torch after 1 movie... that makes 0 sense to me... but maybe he doesnt want the long term commitment, idk...

Wasn't Ketch the third Ghost Rider after Slade and Blaze had their own comics?

@jlabatman -

3rd in terms of publication.

4th, if you also count the Trail Of Tears story.

5th, if you also-also count the 1,000,000 BC Avengers run.

TLDR: Count him however you feel like. There's been dozens, so you can't go wrong.

@jlabatman - Well technically Ketch is 4th.

1. Golden Age was Rex Fury
2. Silver Age Carter Slade
3. Bronze Age Johnny Blaze
4. Copper Age Danny Ketch
5. Modern Age Robbie Reyes

Slade, Fury and Reyes nobody really cares about and honestly, the first true Ghost Rider was Blaze. No one thinks of Slade or Fury in their sort of boring ghost clothes lol. They think of that flaming skull which started with Blaze and continued through Ketch and Reyes.

I think it'd be an interesting story for a sequel to have this dynamic, maybe Mephisto creates a new Rider to bring down the previous, but for a first outting? Nah.

Hoping he's Blackheart, honestly.
