Bradley Cooper on Losing Green Lantern Role and on his A-Team Action Figure

Bradley Cooper says he couldn't help himself from talking in the husky voice Christian Bale uses for Batman in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight!

Before the news broke last year that Ryan Reynolds had nabbed the lead role of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, actor Bradley Cooper was considered by many to be the top contender for the role. Cooper has admitted in the past that he was up for the role, but he recently explained that the reason he didn't get the part was because he blew the audition...by impersonating Christian Bale's husky Batman voice!

"The trouble was that when I auditioned, it being a superhero movie, I couldn’t help but do my Christian Bale Batman voice.

"I don’t know why. Needless to say I didn’t get the job."

However, Cooper will still get his chance to be an action hero with his own action figure thanks to his role as "Face" in the upcoming The A-Team movie.

"I do indeed have my own action figure although apparently it looks nothing like me. I am very excited that there is an action figure for Face. It feels like a big deal. Getting my own toy was always the goal!"

He has himself to thank that for. Did he think Green Lantern spoke like a mad man? I couldnt see Cooper as Hal Jordan, but I like him. He could surely play Green Arrow maybe.

Sounds like he really didn't want the role. I tried out with my Daffy Duck voice and I didn't get it either, go figure.

Lee, do you have any thoughts on Cooper for a Lantern role?

Uhh... What? Yeah this was a pretty stupid move on Cooper's part. Even if Bale's Bat-voice was any good there is absolutely no way that Hal Jorden would ever talk like that. Just goes to show, a little research can go a long way. In any case, I'm kinda glad he didn't get it. I think he's even more of a smart*ss then Reynolds, although he might be a decent Guy Gardener, but I don't care much for that lantern and don't really care to see him on the big screen. It's ok Cooper, at least you still have Hangover 2.

@Dogs: I have a feeling LEE's gonna fancast him as Guy Gardener if he hasn't already, isn't he...

Yeah, not really a good move on his part :)

I think Bale sounds constipated when he is in Batman mode anyway. oh well thats what you get faceman. Anyone else think he would make a pretty good Matt Murdock aka Daredevil? Or maybe a Dr. McNinja movie that would rock.

Bale's "throat cancer" Batman is horrible! I can't believe Cooper went that route!

It's kinda funny. I wonder if he meant to do it as a joke, and they didn't get it, so they were like 'umm... next' lol.

Maybe he just tried to make himself man up but it kinda came out like that. He could just be describing it like that when he looks back.

@ Bzzd.
as a HUGE Batman fan I don't think the voice really mattered on if it would have been good or not. And plus considering his voice wasn't bad in Batman Begins, it was utter crap in The Dark Knight. Awesome movie.. terrible voice

Considering how polarizing Bale's Batman voice is to even die-hard Batman fans, yeah, not the brightest move!

He's being facetious, right? To make fun of Bale. I don't think he's seriously saying he thought it was a good idea and then it backfired on him. Is he?

@jazzman: Is it? I searched the CBM archive for his name going back to August last year and no one had posted it. Oh, well, at least it gives us something to laugh at on a slow news day.

You know, they could cast him as Guy Gardner, put him in the eventual Justice League movie and have him actually do the impression in front of Batman. Then Bats could knock him out with one punch, just like in the book.

People seem to forget that Nolan made Bale's "Batman Voice" even more dramatic with voice modulation in post production....

That wasn't all on Bale...

Haven't I heard this before? Oh well...

Jeez that voice doesn't even work for BATMAN let alone Green Lantern...seriously heroes shouldn't sound like chain smoking lesbians....could you imagine Spider-Man or something pullign that voice? Jesus H. Christ!!!

That's fine for Cooper....He needs to be Guy Gardner in the second GL flick anyway. Can you imagine him being his obnoxious character(x10) from the Hangover right in the face of Reynolds Jordan? It would be awesome!

Talontd@ Yep, I am surprised how many people bag on Bale about the voice. If the voice was not liked by the director and production company, they would have had him do it differently. I don't put any of it on him. The voice didn't bother me like it seemed to bother most.

Bale's Batman sounded like he'd either swallowed a pond full of bullfrogs or like he'd smoked 2 cartons of unfiltered Camels a day for 30 years. That voice was really annoying and distracting. Why would anyone in their right mind want to imitate it, except perhaps to make fun of how annoying it is?
