Visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas has announced on her Blog that Green Lantern got the official green light yesterday (Wednesday) and that filming will start in 10 weeks (sometime in March):

"Wow! Been a long time since I posted! But today is a day worth posting about!

Green Lantern got the official green light today! And not a second too soon - only 10 weeks out from shooting!

While it's great news we are a go - now we have to actually get our prep done in 10 weeks!
DOH!

But we have an amazing crew - so we will make it happen!"

Nice. Its good to hear something positive about Martin Cambell's GL adaptation. So far its been all delays and location changes. All we know for certain is that Ryan Reynolds will play Hal Jordan and that the movie is due for release June 17, 2011. Now that its received the official green light, lets hope we start to hear more casting news soon, and a few set pics too.

Great news Ror. I was reading in an article yesterday that Reynolds has been bulking up for this role.
I wonder, how big does he need to be?
He has a great build for this role already. The Green Lantern isn't huge ( his power is in the ring) and Reynolds already has all kinds of tone working for him.

@ Hawksblue: Exactly. There's no sense in that. His power is in the ring, so they don't need a big buff guy at all.

But I think that's justReynold's thing lol He just gets ripped whatever the role is

Reynolds should do Deadpool next. This way he is ripped for the movie.

How powerful will they make the ring on the big screen?
That will be the trickiest part of the movie.

BTW ppl who are saying, "isn't Ryan already ripped so why does he still bulk up for Hal Jordan", must understand that Ryan loves to exercise it's just something he naturally loves to do, it's like his drug you know like he's addicted to it, not that it's a bad thing at all, it's very good atleast we all know that we have a true physical superhero in Hollywood plus he's 33 right now so that is a very healthy work ethic. This makes me want to exercise now so good for him. Scarjo must be extremely happy.

I never questioned why he exorcises, I questioned why he would feel the need to bulk up for this role when he is the perfect size for it already.

Staying toned and bulking up are two different mindsets when working out.
RedDevil
RedDevil - 1/7/2010, 9:56 AM
but you know what is going to be hilarious. Imagine Ryan is so buff that he is bigger than Chris Hemsworth playing Thor. Man that would be embarassing. But I doubt that will happen since Ryan is really aiming to only be ripped rather than buff while Chris is going for the amrs of steel and chest of optimus prime

@Punish88r: Yes that would be embarrassing.

And I hate to break it to everybody but that's probably exactly how it's going to be. Reynolds is a LOT bigger than Hemsworth build wise.

Darth: I haven't seen one pic on the internet that does justice to Hemsworths build. I watched an interview with him months ago before he was announced as Thor that took place while he was training. He is a kickboxer.
He didn't have a shirt on for most of the interview, and I was thinking to myself what a good choice for Cap he would make. He is way bigger than Reynolds ever thought about being.
None of these shirtless pics I have seen are recent, he's way bigger than that now. I believe durring the interview I watched, they listed him at 225lbs and he's bulked up quite a bit since.
DogsOfWar
DogsOfWar - 1/7/2010, 10:26 AM
@Darth-Reynolds has a longer body style which works for many superheroes. Hemsworth has a thicker body style which will be perfect for Thor.

supermarioworldE - 1/7/2010, 10:34 AM
Great News! Unfortunately though, no cast names have been released, so I still think that Ryan will be playing every character by himself. lol.

In all seriousness, This movie will do for DC, what Superman The Movie did for CBM's. I can't wait for 2011. Almost makes this year seem like crap.
