I have read many of the reviews of the new Green Lantern movie. It seems as if they have overwhelmingly been bad. I just don't understand the hate directed at this movie. I have been reading comics for three decades and can tell you that I felt that Green Lantern was a very good adaptation of the material on which it is based.
Hal Jordan comes across as the cocky pilot with the big attitude and bigger mouth, which is how it should be. Ryan Reynolds plays the character with the right amount of humor for what he is going through. I have heard that Reynolds acting was horrendous and I disagree.
Visually this movie is bar none the best DC movie to date. The Green Lanterns on Oa are fantastic and I can even forgive the costume's odd look, once you get over the shock of the look. Sinestro matches well to his comic conterpart, as does Kilowog and the Guardians.
As for all of the people who have trashed this movie I want to point out that the point of this movie is to give you an escape for 90 minutes or so, and give you a thrill at the coolness of the Green Lantern history. It does that. Is it Oscar worthy... no, but no matter how good a comic movie is it is just that a comic book movie. Its not Avatar or Titanic, its Green Lantern. Have fun...I did.
