GREEN LANTERN Showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith Teases The "Gigantic" Scale Of The HBO Max Series

Green Lantern is in the works for HBO Max, and showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith has now teased the massive scale of the series, hinting at plans to take a deep dive into the comic book lore. Check it out...

There was no mention of the Green Lantern TV series during DC FanDome, but it remains in the works for HBO Max. Finn Wittrock has been cast as Guy Gardner, while Jeremy Irvine will take on the role of Alan Scott. Tobias Menzies, meanwhile, has been rumoured for Sinestro, and we're still waiting for news on characters like Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Kilowog, and the newly created Bree Jarta.

Collider recently caught up with showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith, and managed to get a minor update on the sheer scale of the ambitious live-action (small screen) project.

"Yeah, that show is gigantic," the filmmaker teased. "It has taken quite a bit of time to get to this point and it’s just a big, big undertaking. It’s going really well. All I can say is that it’s going really well and there are gonna be Green Lanterns in it, and it’s gonna be on HBO Max."

As for his interest in the DC Universe, Grahame-Smith - who was once attached to helm The Flash - revealed that he wasn't big into comic books, but was introduced through the movies. "I’ll admit, I wasn’t like a huge comic book kid. I was a huge movie kid. And so, my introduction to DC Comics came through the '89 Batman movie. When that movie came out, I was like, 'Oh, my God, Batman is the coolest,' and I started reading Batman comic books."

"But Green Lantern is something that, to be honest with you, just came to me later, by way of just talking about doing the show," he added. "The possibility of doing the show led me down a deep dive of Green Lantern lore. We’ll see. It’s gonna be a while before the world gets to see that, but we are very, very busy at work, as we speak."

We're not surprised that Green Lantern is still a long way down the road, and we honestly wouldn't be shocked if the show doesn't arrive on our screens until 2023 or 2024. What that means for the long-rumoured Green Lantern Corps movie focused on Hal Jordan and John Stewart is hard to say, but it's not a project that appears to be a major priority for Warner Bros. right now.

Are you excited to watch HBO Max's Green Lantern TV series?

I still don't know what to expect of this show. I like that it will be heavily Green Lantern lore focused. On the other hand though, if it's on the same production level as some of the CW shows or Titan I'm losing interest real quick

@dragon316 - well obviously I'm gonna wait for it to give it my proper judgment, but I am already setting certain expectations.

And otherwise I'll just read reviews of movie critics and consider that.

Zero faith in DC to produce anything above the CW standard anymore, despite the meager enjoyment that is gleaned out by some.

It’s hard to imagine it not looking like something even slightly resembling a CW show. It being as good as Superman & Lois would be a dream.

I wish John. Hal. Or Kyle were the leads if Sinestro is in it. They had more History with Sinestro than Guy did IMO. I'm not enthusiastic about the show yet

Not a fan of non comic book fans making these series and movies… it should be a requirement to know the comic book lore from multiple iterations of the characters and team ups. Just saying I think it helps to have some kind of passion for these characters and not just a passion for film making.
Outside of that I hope this show is good as we need a live action green lantern that rocks.

From the looks of it, they'll be teasing for the next two years at least.

Seriously, this and Strange Adventures got announced like two years ago, and there aren't any signs of progress (apart from casting two GLs)?

The same can go for GCPD, JLD, Constantine, and Zatanna.

At least we're getting Peacemaker, but on the contrary, when Marvel announces something, they stick to their word.

I always thought Green Lantern was a silly character, even as a kid. That said, I would still like to see a cool live screen version of the property, so I hope this is good.

I would have like green lantern comics more as kid but artist always make them weak they can come up with any construct with there imagination and artists always limit there potential as lanterns
