Jack Black Reminisces About Almost Playing A Comedic Green Lantern!

The actor recalls being picked by Warner Bros to play Green Lantern in a thankfully scrapped superhero comedy written by TV Funhouse creator Robert Smigel...

"I do. I just think about it sometimes," the actor told MTV News when asked if all the attention that the new Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynold is getting ever reminds him about what could've been.

"Yeah, some people may know that for a minute there, long ago, there was talk of a more comedic version of Green Lantern, but yeah, it wasn't meant to be."

Asked whether he looks at Ryan Reynolds tossing around one-liners in the recently released trailer and wonders about all the outrage that surrounded his version of Hal Jordan, Black wasn't having it...

"[frick] you. Next question," he laughed.

After Green Lantern hits, Jack Black should do a spoof of it for the MTV Movie Awards or something.
But as for a proper GL movie with Jack as Hal Jordan....NO! it would have devalued the brand

I think JB needs to step down for awhile or stop allowing himself to be chosen for these recent crappy kid comedies. Kung-Fu Panda is an exception, but almost everything else has been crap. I'd hate to see what would've happened with him as anything GL related.

I miss TV Funhouse... it actually had some funny skits with it's Comedy Central run.

Yeah, he dodged a bullet there. Too bad he didn't dodge Gulliver's Travels also.

I'm glad that he didn't play Green Lantern, but I like Jack Black. It's a pity that he doesn't do better movies (Gulliver's Travels look great though) as the guy is a really good actor IMO. Anyone else think that he'd make a great Foggy Nelson if he toned down his comedic side like in King Kong? :)

Agreed Jack Black as G'Nort would work fine. I've got a real soft spot for G'nort.

It'd have been more comedic, no really? You don't say.

Jack Black only ever plays himself, and himself is not Guy Gardener. Clearly.

When JB is on the mark, he's hilarious. I'll give any movie he's in a shot, even if it's a redbox rental a few months later. But Green Lantern........pushing it.

I think he would make a decent Guy Gardner, but not Hal Jordan.
