Director Martin Campbell has been making headlines on an almost daily basis, and it's not for his new film Edge of Darkness, starring Mel Gibson. Campbell has been speaking quite a bit about one of fandom's most highly-anticipated comic book movies: Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds.
Rebecca Murray of
About.com recently caught up with Campbell and asked him about some of the rumored characters and plot details that have been circulating about
Green Lantern.
Many believe that there will be two (or more) villains facing off against Hal Jordan/Green Lantern--
Hector Hammond and
Sinestro--but Campbell said that's not true:
"No, no, no, no, no. Don't listen to that nonsense." And, when pressed about the plot, Campbell referred back to an
earlier statement that he made about the
Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn mini-series:
"Well, I'll tell you what. Get the origin story, read that, and you'll be pretty much on target. Well, you know, it varies slightly. But [the movie is] pretty much the origin story of Green Lantern."
Besides Reynolds, the only other
Green Lantern cast member confirmed at this time is
Blake Lively in the role of Carol Ferris, Hal's boss and love interest. Campbell has said that he is in negotiations with
Mark Strong (Lord Blackwood in
Sherlock Holmes) for the role of Sinestro, and
Peter Sarsgaard is supposedly in talks to play the villainous Dr. Hector Hammond.
Green Lantern opens June 17, 2011!
