Ozy Reviews Green Lantern

Ozy Reviews Green Lantern

So, is Green Lantern as bad as the critics are putting it out to be? Or is everyone just being a bit harsh on the movie? Here's my take on DC's latest film... (Spoiler-Free)

Review Opinion

After Nolan's Batman films and Singer's Superman flick, we finally get to see another hero in the JLA lineup. Now, after seeing all the negative reviews for this movie, I pretty much went in to the theater with my expectations low and knowing that I would most likely be dissapointed. Especially with Ryan Reynolds in the role. I'm not exactly a reader of the Green Lantern comics but I have read a few, so I know stuff about the characters, settings, etc.

Green Lantern is about a test pilot who is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

Ryan Reynolds was great as Hal Jordan in my opinion. I don't why but I just really liked him in the role. I honestly thought he would be terrible in it but he surprised me. Blake Lively was OK in this, she was the weak link. She just never impressed me in any scenes, just some eyecandy throughout the movie. Mark Strong sizzled on screen as Sinestro! He stole every scene he was in, by far the best part of the movie. Peter Saarsgard as Hector Hammond was alright. I found him somewhat annoying after a while. He played a alright villain. The CGI effects for the Green Lantern costumes were spot on. I also liked the alien effects, Kilowag and the other aliens looked great on screen. Parallax had some dodgy CGI which looked kind of bad in a few scenes but it didn't ruin the movie for me. Also of course, the scene during the credits was very exciting to watch also.

Honestly, I don't why people don't like this movie and why the critics hate is so much. My review may be giving it the highest-rated score on this site as of right now but I really enjoyed it. I really hope this movie makes enough for a sequel and also so that we can see more DC characters on screen such as Wonder Woman and The Flash. Overall, a great movie. (In my opinion anyway)

9/10

I agree Blake at first was really stiff but towards the end I didn't notice her bad acting as much because Ryan really carried the film superbly. Was the cgi the greatest thing since sliced bread? No but it never took me out of the film or made me hate it. I LOVED this film and hope it gets enough money to get a sequel!

I totally and completely agree with you. Green Lantern was awesome on sooooo many levels and should be regarded as being better than Thor and as good as Iron Man. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are still the big title holders for best cbms though hahaha

I am having a hard time getting my head around this either there's a lot of morons or a lot bias ass clowns out here. i went in expecting a huge let down and was well more then pleasantly surprised. WTF! i mean for real.

Ozymandias, I agree with you 100%, this movie was amazing. And to all you idiots who have to write asshole remarks about his review, why don't you grow up, it's his opinion. Instead of everyone reading all the negative reviews and basing their opinions off of that, why don't you guys come up with an original thought on why you hate this movie so much. At least for the most part he was Green Lantern through out the movie not like in Thor where he was basically a walking homeless guy, and X-Men First Class where we had to wait till the end to actually see some good action. I think more people need to write what's good about this movie and stop being so negative, It's the negative people that are going to ensure we never get a sequel or a Flash movie, or a justice league movie, not people like Ozymandias, so shut up! We get it, if its DC and not Batman, you hate it.

Lol @boyofsteel, it's not "negative people" that are going to stop a sequel but WB/DC for failing to provide a good movie in the first place. If they had done that then the critics and people who watched and hated it would have given it great reviews. Did you stop to think about that?

And defending Ozy by saying he has a right to his opinion and then telling us we need to "shut up" for expressing ours? Ha, come make me :D

@nailbiter11 Ozy has explained himself to you already, and doesn't have to give a longer review if he doesn't want to. Since you seem so to believe he must give you a more detailed explanation, why don't you explain why you only give the movie a 2?

Saw GL last night, I really liked it but there are certainly things that could be improved upon..most def was not "the worst movie ever". Seriously, that kind of fan boy superlative speak is ruining the way we discuss movies.

No. This movie got some things kind of right but it's not on the same level of fox's gravy train movie.
Thing's this movie got right
1.Hal Jordan- Reynolds got him right but barely enough to save the movie
2.Mark Strong - Perfect for the part too bad the writers were drunk while writing green lantern. Not enough screentime.
3.Kilowog - He's Perfect. Not enough screentime.
4.Tomar Re -He's Perfect. Not enough screentime.
5.The Guardians - Decently portrayed. Not enough screentime.
6.Other Lanterns- Just Right. Not even close enough screentime.
7. Oa - It's cool.

Everything else either sucked or was decent but the decent parts are a minority.

@penguin..you're not making any sense...

1. you first say the movie needs a "goddamn reboot.
2. then you say this movie got some things right and then go on to list 7 things that range from perfect to cool....then everything else sucks or was decent.

am i missing something? if the decent parts are in the minority but then you have a bunch of stuff that's "perfect" and "just right"...how can the movie suck so bad it needs a reboot?

@ Stevepants The First Comment Was out of line and I was on the toilet when that was wrtitten. The movie's entertaining and is about on the same level as any other mainstream movie that's made to make a gabillion bucks. At least DC's Got a gravy train to live on. For your last question: Jonah Hex.(That would have been very easy to translate to film but they decided to shit on the source material.)

Dude, I so agree with you. I like the effects when Parallax eats lives like a hot steak knife goes through butter. I also like how Sinestro becoming the Yellow Lantern leads up to either Green Lantern 2 or the Justice League.
