UPDATE: Ryan Reynolds Dishes on Green Lantern

Here are a few quotes from Hal Jordan himself while he attended the Academy Awards this evening.

Principal photography for Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is slated to begin later this month. Both Ryan Reynolds and Peter Saarsgard took a break from the Louisiana set to attend the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Reynolds relinquished a few tidbits about his current project while on the red carpet:

"It's a long haul and very physical," he told USA TODAY. "Everyday [my trainer] turns me into a fine cottage cheese, curd-like pudding. But it’s worth it. The movie is going to be fantastic, so I’m really happy with it."

He spoke to E! News about his time in costume, "The costume is snug, it doesn't camouflage too much. I think that once I stop blushing, which will be about month three of production, it should all be equalized."

We can only hope director Campbell isn't a fan of Shumacher-style superhero crotch shots. While discussing his film, The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock, Reynolds stated that he has had a good year; but is choosing his roles more carefully now. He didn't mention whether his latest superhero casting had anything to do with that decision.

UPDATE: MTV News also had a chance to pose a few questions to the Green Lantern star. The first was regarding the film's tentative 3D release, "Yeah, it is [being released in 3-D]. Yeah, absolutely."

When asked if he'd changed his stance on giving audiences a taste of the iconic Green Lantern Corps oath, Reynolds said, "I'm not doing it. No, no, you're not sucking me into this, man! Do you have any idea how much trouble I'd get into if I just belted out the oath right here?"

"You're going to have to pay cold, hard money [to hear it]," he said jokingly.

In unrelated Oscar news, Avatar star Sam Worthington made it sound like his tux is a 'Will Work for Food' sign, "I just need another job.. You take it as it rolls.. That's why I'm here. You come here; you put your monkey suit on. You come and do what's needed to be and try to get another gig."

Looks like that Avengers t-shirt he wore awhile back didn't work out for him.

There's no stopping The Dude. They might as well have given him the award when he got out of the limo. It's a lock.

I can't f*ckin watch the awards because I have to write a paper and stupid ABC is having some network fiasco or something.

But I pray that Avatar doesn't win. I could care less about who actually wins BP, as long as it isn't Avatar, I'm good. Though I would host a party if District 9 came out of nowhere and took home the gold. My house would need repairs from the sheer velocity and power of my jizz.

Oh, and Reynolds will rule as GL. Anyone here seen The Nines? He rocked that movie.

The Hurt Locker may not have made anywhere near as much money as Avatar (I think it only made a few hundred thousand here in the UK) but it's the better movie! I mean, Avatar was great but really forgettable - without 3D, it would have been just any other overly long sci-fi movie with ok CGI! The Hurt Locker stays with you after watching it! :)

Definitely! Oh, and Christoph Waltz got the 'Best Actor in a Supporting Role' Oscar! Well deserved even if I didnt like Inglorious all that much! :P Star Trek just got best makeup!

Well, Waltz winning is no surprise. I haven't watched more than 30 minutes of Basterds, but from everything I heard, it seemed obvious that he'd win.

Trek definitely deserves best make up.

JoshWilding - 3/7/2010, 8:10 PM
To be honest, Waltz and Fassbender were the only two actors that stopped me from really disliking the movie...I'm not sure whether it's the fact I dont like Tarrantino's style but I just found the whole thing very, "Meh"!

Damn, I wish I had the willpower to stay up and see whether The Hurt Locker wins it..! It would be great if Renner got the Best Actor prize but I'm guessing that will go to Firth or Bridges from what I've read!

And BAM! Hurt Locker takes Director and Best Picture!

So basically, Worthington was just whoring himself out for a job!

I think I just picked Capt. Boomerang. He won't even have to fake an accent.

LEEE77 made me despise Sam Worthington because he wanted him, a non-American, to be Captain America so much. It's subconscious and the damage is severe. I think the only reason I might see Clash of the Titans is because I like Liam Neeson.

@Tyler - might be of interest to you and other spidey fans ryan reynolds not the only 1 interviewed about playing a superhero. Zac Efron sounded really game about maybe playing spidey to mtv on the red carpet. Even said "but to be honest, i can't tell you if it's reality (sic)..we'll see what happens." he seemed to be more forthcoming than lerman and other actors about being parker. Pattinson already said he's not interested. so all those following the lerman rumors shld pay more attention to Zacky boy as he's been talking an awful lot about being spidey these days

Worthington is so over hyped it's not funny. There's nothing about him remotely worthy of the attention he's getting. There is a role out there for him to shine in but it sure as hell ain't CAP!!!

Glad to see Avatar won the awards it SHOULD have won and nothing else!

Sam Worthington for Cap...tain Boomerang! I've got good plans for him.

bropous The word is that Superman has David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan writing with a focus on Brainiac. No one is officially attached to direct.

BTW, anyone catch the Geoff Johns treatment of Superman: Brainiac that came out last Wednesday?

"choosing his roles more carefully now"

hmmmmm. I wonder if there was something about playing GL that hasn't sat will with him.

Perhaps he feels embarrassed in the costume or something.
I remember that Ben AFFLACK said that about his Daredevil costume which I personally liked.

I think that statement is in context of the The Proposal (Especially in light of recieving a Razzie). Now that he landed Green Lantern, he can afford to be more selective with the roles he accepts. That is what I took from it.

In other words, I assume the GL role will carry some pretige with it.
