Will Star Sapphire Show Up In The First Green Lantern?

Some comments from a photo shoot may reveal more than was intended for the Green Lantern star.

The long legged Ms. Blake Lively took time out of her Green Lantern to do a surf themed photo shoot for Vogue (coming out in the June issue). Not a whole lot was said but some interesting tidbits did get revealed. Here is the excerpt where the upcoming superhero movie is mentioned:

The adventure begins in the Vogue offices when I am bidden to look at the fittings shots of Blake Lively, which reveal a body sublimely toned for her upcoming role as Carol Ferris (a.k.a. ultravillain Star Sapphire) in Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, based on the DC Comics superhero introduced in 1940. "All I want is to be a hero to my nephews and nieces," Lively says, laughing. "I'm going to be the coolest aunt ever."

Lively has been rehearsing with a stunt coordinator who works on the Bond movies and with gymnastic acrobats from Cirque du Soleil. "Our director likes it real—the fights close and dirty," she explains, and for added veracity aerial stunts are being filmed in the rig created for The Matrix. "I'm 40 feet in the air, spiraling around. That's the best workout you can ever do because it's all core," she tells me. "You do that for ten minutes and you should see your body the next day! It's so exhilarating, so thrilling—and nauseating"

Now, we know that Green Lantern is already a planned trilogy and that the villainous incarnation of Star Sapphire will emerge at some point from Lively's character Carol Ferris. What is widely agreed upon is that Star will appear in the second or third movie. So, is her quote of being "40 feet in the air, spiraling around" a damsel in distress being rescued or a fight scene with Ryan Reynolds? My first instinct is the former had she not also referenced that Martin Campbell "likes it real—the fights close and dirty". Only time will tell but consider that Mark Strong's Sinestro will be more mentor than adversary (if at all) in the first movie which leaves only Hector Hammond, an Earth bound villain.

So, does this seem plausible or am I just off my rocker?

On a side note (and to justify posting the below pictures) earlier, our own MultiPurposePoni in his Un-Official Set Visit had this to report: "Blake Lively's hair was a very dark brown; I honestly couldn't tell if she was wearing a wig or not."

Looks like it was probably a wig or a temporary dye job at the least (thanks Phinehas) as these shots were just recently done during her break from the movie set.

I still think Emily Blunt or Gemma Arterton would of been good for the part. But Blake is so hot it makes for great eye candy.

I hope they hold off on Star Sapphire until the next GL movie. If they throw too many characters in it will get too messy and Hal Jordan/GL will not be fleshed out thoroughly. SS is a great character that can be fleshed out (at length) in the second GL movie and it may make for a far better series. There will be plenty going on without Star Sapphire in the opening salvo from Green Lantern!

No idea who Star Sapphire is, lol, but this is a great article DOGS! :) I may not be familiar with Green Lantern but from the point you make here, I'd say that it's extremely likely this character will appear either in the first movie or at least be set up for the second!

She isnt chesty enough like the drawing but she's prett, hehe.. I dont wanna see Star Sapphire in the first movie. Maybe a hint. Its more important to focus on the Hal - Sinestro relationship and a hint of Sinestro going bad WOULD BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO it is way too early to have Star Sapphire in it, but this your theory does make sense, so who knows.

Am I the only one that finds Lively to be a bit plain looking? Don't get me wrong, she has a great body and she's a pretty girl but I just don't find he gorgeous. Her face is just..plain! Anyway, nice article Dogs, who knows, certainly a possibility.

Agreed @ ROR, hopefully we'll get STAR SAPPIRE in the sequel and LIVELY gets RECAST!

Too soon for STAR SAPPIRE!

Very interesting @ DOGS good points!

JAZZ @ SUPER PLAIN JANE lol!

Cool PIC though!

@Ror-I don't think those pics really do her justice. I find her to be quite beautiful myself.

I don't think it would be too early to introduce Star Sapphire into the first GL movie. I've always had my reservations about Hector Hammond being the only (main) villian. It seems like it might make for a weak final battle. An appearance by Star Sapphire might inject a little adrenaline into what could otherwise possibly be a flat ending.

@LEEE777

found that pic on deviantart

introducing Star Sapphire in the first GL movie is a big no its too early they could hint it abit but dont introduce Star Sapphire until the sequel.

Ror@ I'm with you too. I find her okay, but not that pretty. Also a little too scrawny for my taste. Not saying I would kick her out for eating crackers in bed or anything, but she isn't anywhere near the top of my list for hot actresses. ;-)

At first I was thinking... Our Star Sapphire is going to have a part in the movie? Then I woke up a little more and realized...

@Leee-Aw, c'mon man. She's not that bad. Campbell could've done way worse.
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 5/19/2010, 8:52 AM
Worse would have been Vanessa Hudgens, Anna Faris, and Kristin Stewart I agree, but when you had more talent like Eva Green, Jen Garner and Keri Russell, or better yet my choice Evangaline Lilly

Trust me you should see the reaction from GL fans when I tell them Blake is Carol, they are either like who and then when I tell them shes on Gossip Girl, they go OH NO HELL NO

Martin Campbell and Blake Lively have both confirmed that Star Sapphire is NOT in this film in any way. They've already done this. Meaning this story is pointless. Also. . .

I think you're all VERY wrong about her, and you'll all eat your words when the film comes out.

"Looks like it was probably a wig as these shots were just recently done during her break from the movie set."

Or temporary dye...

"So, is her quote of being "40 feet in the air, spiraling around" a damsel in distress being rescued or a fight scene with Ryan Reynolds." <---I think this was meant as a question?

Why would the jump the gun? That'd be weird.
DogsOfWar
DogsOfWar - 5/19/2010, 9:57 AM
Thanks Phin-It was meant as a question-I'll fix it. It would be weird to jump the gun but crazier things have happened.

JLanphear & InterestingJohn-I was hoping some of the die hard GL guys would post. My first reaction is no Star as well but the I felt the quotes begged the question. I have not seen Campbell or anyone outright say Star won't be in this. Also, I haven't read the script(s) floating around (by choice). Revisions will be made and since no pics of her have surfaced, it seems likely the 40 foot rig shot is from the interior studio where all space scenes are done. Like I said, could be off my rocker here but things do may you go hmmm....

Blondes dying their hair black is terrible, Superman comes to mind yall.

The reason for the hate is anyone with common sense knows shes not good for the part, we know DC cant cast a leading lady.

@Leee-Hopefully, being surrounded by a higher caliber of actor, she will give a better performance than anything you (we) have seen on the CW. She better knock it out of the park, though! :) Have some faith, my friend. Green Lantern will own!
