GUARDANS OF THE GALAXY Nitpicks

GUARDANS OF THE GALAXY Nitpicks

Before you read this know I to thought that Guardians was a good movie, I just want to share a few minor problems that i found while watching it.

Review Opinion

1. Ronan

Ronan was a bad guy with a lot of talk but no action. Whenever he spoke he seemed very menacing, but that can only go so far. On top of that the Thanos appearance kind of belittled him, I didn't buy for a second he could take on Thanos even with his infinity stone. Also Ronan has only one fight scene in the movie where he completely curbstomps Drax, in hindsight that’s pretty weak. Luckily this movie made me forgive Ronan going out basically the same way Red Skull did, by doing that epic hand holding scene with all the Guardians. I wouldn’t go as far to say he was awful, but all he did in my opinion is help move the plot around.

2. Where are we in this movie?

I'll admit that I don't know that much lore about the Marvel cosmic universe or have seen all the Marvel movies. So one thing that kept nagging in the back of my mind is how does the Guardians universe fit with the Avengers earth? Why are there humans living living on other planets with advanced technology? In the movie Yondu seems to know how to get to Earth, so is there some reason no aliens ever want to go there? I’m also not sure if Peter isn’t going back to Earth because he can’t or because he does not want to.Then again this is something you kind of have to accept, like the whole Kryptonians are aliens that look like humans sort of thing.

3. End Credits scenes showed nothing plot important for the MCU

Both baby Groot, and Howard the Duck were fun and unexpected, but didn’t quite live up to my hype. I was really expecting something to build towards Avengers 2, or Thanos to show up. The movie before Avengers 2 would have been a good place to put an Ultron teaser even if he has nothing to do with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Four mini nitpicks

-Peter surprisingly ok with learning he’s not entirely humans

-Drax saying that Thanos is the real person Drax should be after was only an insult to injury for Ronan.

-Drax should have had a final confrontation with Ronan in a proper fight
-Nebula was a meh for me, and her one fight with Gamora was to short

I want to reiterate, I liked Guardians and thought it was a solid movie. I just think it had a few small nagging problems that irked me.

So what do you think? Did you share any of my nitpicks or am I just a DC person who is over analyzing this movie?

Seriously, the best review of the movie I've seen.

Honestly, at the end of the movie, I went "Okay, the MCU has become ridiculous." Yeah, because that's a movie we want. "Cosmo the Spacedog and Howard the Duck"

Lighten up. The movie captured the tone of the 2008 run perfectly. Which is the best GotG run. I wanted Cosmo, just saying.

@ManWithNoName
Well, yeah. The movie is clearly more focused on the heroes rather than the villains. Which I can understand some people's disappointment, but his motives were clear and he was menacing. I loved Lee Pace's performance.

Basically, they're in a different galaxy. And suspension of disbelief is needed in that respect, like in Mos, because it isn't necessary to explain.

See, that is the problem with us fans. We've been spoiled so now we just expect it every time. I loved both the mid and end credits scenes.

We didn't really get a chance to fully see Peter dealing with that discovery. Something that will be explored in GotG2. I'm pretty sure Feige confirmed it, also.

Agree with your points. Also i found the alien design to be pretty lazy.

Actually I just now learned that was a joke.

One of the things I found interesting about Doug Walker's review was his view on Ronan; that, compared to everyone else, he's such a straight man, that he should be interpreted as humorous

My only nitpick in the film is killing off Ronan.....and the movie should have been 4 hours long!
