Guardians of the Galaxy Cartoon Licenses Actual Hit Songs for Individual Episodes.

“Hooked on a Feeling”, “I want you back”, and “Come and Get Your Love”, just a few examples of hit tracks featured in last summer’s blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. With the high cost of licensing these types of hits, you wouldn’t expect the same quality of music in a cartoon would you?

One of the memorable qualities of Marvel’s blockbuster hit Guardians of the Galaxy was its use of Music. From the infectious groove of Redbones “Come and Get your Love” to The Five Stairsteps uplifting “O o H Child” the soundtrack of Guardians took on a life of its own becoming  an integral part of the film.  With a soundtrack climbing all the way to number one on the Billboard Charts and being certified Platinum this hit laden collection of songs cost Disney and Marvel a pretty penny to license. So while much of the cost was recouped in album sales the luxury of this amount of music licensing tends to be reserved for big budget films.

Knowing all this the news that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Cartoon airing on Disney XD will be licensing a hit song for individual episodes is rather amazing. Most television shows especially animated ones often create music using session musicians to sound a little bit like the actual music you want but can’t afford.  So props to Disney for realizing how important these hit songs are to the Guardians property and with this in mind it’s pretty safe to assume a soundtrack for the animated series can’t be that far off.

Airing on Saturdays on Disney XD Guardians of the Galaxy premieres on September 28th.

Awesome. I'm sure the 7 year old kids watching this will really appreciate some Jackson 5.

I'll reserve my excitement for when we find out exactly what songs they're paying for, considering Disney XD's history of pandering to kindergartners. This could easily become free publicity for Radio Disney.
