James Gunn And Karen Gillan On GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Director James Gunn and Nebula actress Karen Gillan discuss Guardians of the Galaxy at the Thor: The Dark World North America premiere. "I play a character called Nebula, she is the female villain of the film. She teams up with Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser) who is the male villain."

Guardians of the Galaxy

Karen Gillan: "I play a character called Nebula, she is the female villain of the film. She teams up with Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser) who is the male villain. She's very sadistic and evil but I like to think for a very valid reason...No scenes with Benicio del Toro (The Collector) but me and Zoë Saldaña have a very cool sequence together."

Also, notice James Gunn's "interesting" reaction when asked about Chris Pratt's earlier words about Vin Diesel playing Groot. I know there are a lot of commenters who think there's something fishy going on with Diesel's role in the film and that he's really [or also] voicing Thanos. I'd say Gunn's reaction would possibly lead some to think there's more to the story here.

Peter Quill, a man of the ’80s, finds himself caught in the middle of a conflict spanning the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe attempting to earn his title of Star-Lord with a team of ex-cons that includes a genetically engineered raccoon (Rocket Raccoon), a sentient alien tree of royal descent (Groot), a human who died and came back a killing machine (Drax the Destroyer), and powerful assassin who vows revenge against her master (Gamora).

Together they bring the fight to Ronan the Accuser for their own varied personal reasons, Nebula and her pirates, and their grandmaster, Thanos. The film stars Benicio Del Toro, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Djimon Hounsou, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Vin Diesel, and Zoe Saldana. It is directed by James Gunn. The script was written by Gunn, with story credits from Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman. Guardians of the Galaxy is currently set for release on August 01, 2014.

The fictional superhero team were first created in a 1969 issue of Marvel Super-Heroes #18 by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. The team originates in an alternate reality of the mainstream Marvel Universe, set in the 31st Century, and consists of a team that includes Major Vance Astro, an astronaut from the 20th century Earth who spends a thousand years traveling to Alpha Centauri in suspended animation; Martinex T'Naga, a crystalline alien from Pluto; Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta a blue-skinned "noble savage" from Centauri-IV. Their primary antagonist are the Badoon, a reptilian alien species in the fictional Marvel Comics universe, a world-conquering nomadic empire traversing throughout the far-reaches of space. The Guardians of the Galaxy received a resurgence in 2008 under the stewardship of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. In the aftermath of the Phalanx invasion of the Kree, Star-Lord decides to form a team of interstellar heroes that will be proactive in protecting the galaxy, rather than reacting to crises as they happen. To this end, he recruits Adam Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Quasar, Rocket Raccoon and Groot, with Mantis as support staff.

Oh, so, James Gunn can't even confirm the Groot thing. This Thanos thing is actually looking legit. I don't like Vinn Diesel at all, but his vocal work in something like The Iron Giant was great, sooooo yeah.

We spoke with Chris Pratt about how awesome Vin Diesel is going to be as Groot.

James Gunn: "He didn't tell you that did he? [Look on face says I'm going to kill that motherf%$&er]. We'll see."

Vin isn't playing Groot nor Thanos. I think in a interview Damien Poiter said he could return but declined to say rather he returned in GOTG or not, but I think it's safe to say he did. Vin is playing a secret character.

I could see Vin playing The Watcher.

I know that she's going to be my favourite part of the movie.
It's great that we're going to get a bad-ass, sadistic and intimidating female villain.

Haha I love that they're keeping it a secret. Not 100% sure he's playing Thanos, but there's definitely something fishy going on. Definitely suspicious that Thanos is the only character that we don't know who's playing them though. God I can't wait for this film.

The after credits scene of Thor was awesome, it really displayed perfectly the kind of tone that GotG will be, very alien feel to it with lots of colours and crazy tech stuff happening, even Benicio's performance gave a great indication of how the characters will be portrayed, very far removed from human behaviour with a kind of strange but serious comical presence. I cant wait to see this.

I'm really looking forward to that movie, but...
I hope, that the rest of the film doesn't look as cheesy like this "70's sci-fi TV series" look from the TTDW mid-credits scene..... Awful!

Okay, so at this point I'd say it's probably a good idea to start getting used to the idea of Vin Diesel playing Thanos. The Groot thing with his one line of dialogue is now clearly nothing but a smoke-screen. Can't say I'm happy about it but then again I really can't think of anyone else who could pull it off.

Well.

MARVEl doesn't have a Pirates of Caribbean, Harry Porter or Hunger Games franchises, so.....

Yeah, the NEED to make lots of franchises of characters they STILL have, otherwise they go bankrupt.

Nonetheless, they have some funny movies, at best.

Thor The Dark World After Credits SPOILERS:

Beware of SPOILERS here:

The tone of the mid-credit scene felt very much like the wackier stuff in The Fifth Element to me. Haven't seen that in years, but always thought it was a bit too wacky.

I'm hoping it's because it didn't really fit in with the movie we'd just seen.

For the record: I loved Thor 2, thought it was the best of the Marvel singles, and am very much looking forward to GotG so I'm not just "hating".

Vin diesel was so hyped about the role , he was happy as heLL . He was happy as if he got a role that is gonna be the baddest villain and is gonna beat up on some super heroes ..... He is THANOS! I will be disappointed if he's not . Just watch a Riddick trailer and listen to that evil voice , it just reeks of THANOS ! The evil great Titan! And btw If it was just Groot ,vin would not have been that excited .

Karen is REALLY excited about the movie lol. Theres also too much secrecy around Vin being in the movie, somethings gotta give. It woulda been confirmed by now if he was. He could be Thanos, but I'd like a more capable actor to play him so im still hoping for that

CarlxviGarfield-the tone is gonna be wacky and weird but they said they wanted to the characters to be great, relatable and interesting so people connect with that, some people might have said doing amovie with a green little alien and a furry alien would have been disastrous but its an iconic franchise now,so who knows?
mgeoff88
mgeoff88 - 11/5/2013, 6:37 AM
Awesome! Gamora and Nebula are going to have a badass fight scene together!

The stuff going on with Vin Diesel is weird... Everyone is supposed to keep the news of him playing Groot on the down low.

Why wasn't news of the other actors being cast treated the same way? It does seem like there is more going on here than just Vin Diesel playing Groot.

@ezio619: TDW SPOILERS BELOW

yea I've never had any problem with Rocket Raccoon or Groot being in a movie. That's not what I meant. And they weren't even in that clip.

It's just that it felt ... I can only describe it as wacky, but not in a very good way. Almost a bit like Red Dwarf, but being on the big screen it seemed cheap(er).

But as I said before, it might've just felt out of place cause it was just after another movie which had a different tone.
