A year ago today, most of us laid eyes on what we might call a masterpiece. When Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters August 1, 2014, we witnessed a visually stunning film that not only opened up a bigger story for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it also gave fans around the world a film that we could enjoy for many years to come! This film featured fan favorites such as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista ,and Bradley Cooper who brought our comic book characters to life, while giving us one hell of a film in the process. Even though this film may have shocked some fans (because of its surprising success), it gave others memories that they will cherish forever.

With that said, I will leave it to James Gunn, who personally wrote a heartfelt letter to the many Guardians of the Galaxy fans around the world. Fellow comrade Chris Pratt also chimed in and added his thoughts. Take a look below.

One year ago today, Guardians of the Galaxy opened up in the U.S. and many places around the world. The movie massively over-performed that weekend, even by our own expectations, but what meant more to me is how much so many of you, no matter where you were from, took the story and the characters into your hearts. What meant more to me is that "We are Groot"

became a rallying cry for unity among friends and families. What meant more to me is that you laughed at the dumb stuff I thought you'd miss, like "Cap'n's gotta teach stuff" and "I was thinking of something else." What meant more to me is that in our tenth week we were out-performing any comic book film in recent history - not because of the money, but because people were going back to see the film a second, third, fourth, fifth time, or more, because they loved it. What mattered to me is that after a lifetime of telling stories and half a lifetime making movies, I felt like you and I, filmmaker and audience, were at the same place at the same time.

It mattered to me mostly because I told a story fully with my heart, and you took it into yours. I don't think I can ever explain how much that means to me. It makes every failure I've ever had well worth it.

I get a lot of messages from people saying, "You made me believe in movies again." Well, you guys made me believe that what I spent my life doing was worth doing. And you strengthened my belief that nothing's worth doing, if it's not done honestly, and it's not done with love.

On this, the one year anniversary of the cinematic Guardians entering our solar system: thank you, thank you, thank you.

We really are, truly, honestly Groot.

Love,
James

Now that we have Gunn and Pratt's thoughts out of the way, share your thoughts about Guardians if the Galaxy in the comment section below! And don't forget...

LOVED the Guardians! I've watched GOTG more often on the big screen than any other movie before. There's so much about it that I enjoyed, warts and all. Very much looking forward to the sequel!

Thanks, Mr. Gunn! <3

Though I gotta say that Gunn needs to mind the blatant nepotism in the sequel:

@MexicanSuperman

I don't think so man, the guy wasn't expecting the success not only that, it opened up his career and he gets to do GOTG 2

I think it's awesome, I'd probably be the same way if I were him. Not only that, if you've seen him in interviews, he's [frick]ing hilarious

@MexicanSuperman

This cracked me up, and then they followed it up with the whole "Weekend at Bernies" thing, dragging around a dead Iron Man, haha
