James Gunn Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY's Secret Easter Egg Has Only Been 60% Discovered

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has offered an update on the still very mysterious Easter Egg which has alluded us for years, and it's looking like fans have managed to find a little over half!

By Nighthawk01 - Apr 09, 2020 04:04 AM EST

It's no secret that Guardians of the Galaxy included an as yet undiscovered Easter Egg hidden by director James Gunn, but just how close have we all come to tracking it down? According to the filmmaker, only around 60% of it has been discovered...and we have no clue what that means!

The reveal came during a live watch-along with fans on social media, and is the most noteworthy update we've had since last August when he mentioned that it had been "partially uncovered."

Alas, with so many theories out there, it's impossible to figure out which one of them is 60% correct!

It's entirely possible the filmmaker is sharing a clue with us here, however, and there are no signs that Gunn has any plans to reveal this to fans. That would defeat the object of an Easter Egg in respects, and the Guardians of the Galaxy helmer is clearly enjoying seeing fans trying to figure it out.

Gunn will no doubt plant more Easter Eggs in The Suicide Squad next year, while he's expected to start working on the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 next February.

I really think it's a so on the nose easter egg that once it is discovered, everybody is like ''oooooooooooh ofcourse''

@MalseMarcel - I think it will more so be that it's obvious to James but would have basically been impossible for anyone else to have uncovered.

Well it's something that the MasterTainment guy on YouTube uncovered. Almost certainly to do with the use of the Power Stone in the flashback at the Collector's place, I think.

I have better things to do than look for Easter Egg(s).

The potential Easter Egg I lean most toward being the correct one is the whole "coordinates in the film are a coded message about various plot points" one, because only some of the coordinates have been "decoded", and it explains why Gunn steadfastly refuses to just tell people what it is at this point because at least one of the decoded coordinates spoils the Ego reveal from the end of GotG 2, so more than likely, the remaining 40% of the Easter Egg spoils some of the intended plot points for vol 3.

@contrast - That actually makes perfect sense. I think that's probably it.

It will have something to do w/ each movie. But at this point, most people dont care.

That's not something to be proud of. Easter Eggs are meant to be found, dingus.

@Reeds2Much - I gotta feel sorry for his kids in the future, finding a moldy-assed piece of chocolate behind the kitchen sink.

The 60% is referring to MasterTainment on YouTube:

Although he's got multiple video breakdowns attempting to unravel it so it's anyone's guess as to which one is on the right track.

But yeah...at this point it's kinda beyond fun. Maybe just start dropping hints so we can figure this thing out and move on.

The Easter Egg is Thanos' dick visible when he's sitting in his throne. I'm not joking - go watch it.

It's Death's Head II.

Death's Head II was a toy in the GOTG V2 line.
And his skull is in the Disneyland ride.

So it's probably one of the skulls of Ego's progeny.

Wait, that's the secret easter egg in the sequel. The first movie? The first movie's secret easter egg is... Death' Head I maybe?

I'm mildly curious, but I think he has waited too long. At this point, there has been so much buildup that the answer will probably be underwhelming. It would've been cool if he made it a little competition. Perhaps if anyone guessed it, he'd pay for them to visit the set of Guardians Vol 2. Then he could give small hints as it got closer to the deadline to insure that someone got it. Then he could hide another one in Vol 2 and do the same thing for a chance to visit the set of Vol 3.
