Rocket Wasn't In Early Drafts Of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Could you imagine if the now fan-favourite character hadn't been in Guardians of the Galaxy? I'm certainly having trouble with it, but shockingly, it may have happened! Check out the full story after the jump...

With Guardians of the Galaxy now a massive financial success as well as a critical success, it's difficult to imagine the film could've been any different to how it was. So, it's absolutely shocking to learn that none other than Rocket Raccoon was left out of early drafts of the film's script! Nicole Perlman spoke with Yahoo Movies on the matter.

"There were versions that didn't have Rocket, early on." The co-writer explained. "There was a fear that Rocket would come across as too cartoony. But it all worked out." Perlman goes on to talk about Marvel's screenwriting programme and you can check that out at the source link.

So, are you shocked to discover Rocket may not have been a part of the film? Or can you see the reasoning behind the "cartoony" argument? Be sure to leave your thoughts down below!

Damn.

I would have been sad if Rocket would not have been included in the final cut of the film. Rocket is one of the few highlights from the comics.

The movie in general was a little cartoony but it worked. Better off with Rocket.

The movie wouldn't have been as effective as it was without him. He gave more personality to the movie.

I can't even imagine what the movie would have been like if Rocket wasn't in it. I wonder if they had anybody taking his place on the team and portraying the same type of character.

Too cartoony? Glad they came to their senses.

Glad James came on board and fixed that.

Btw I'm pretty sure this is a couple of months old.

Yeah I've seen a few other articles only publishing it recently too. I dunno, just sounds familiar. Might be mixing it up with an interview about Groot.

There was the talk of Bug being in early drafts and other such things.

@TheGodButcher
That's why he ended up not being in it. They thought they could use him at the start, then they realised they didn't have his film rights.

Who owns Bug?

He's a toy property, so I think it might be Hasbro or something like that. Marvel own his comic book publication rights but not his film rights.

Damn, that sucks. So Bug may never appear in a Guardians of the Galaxy film.

I meant it as a quote, not sarcasm. I'm a [frick]ing writer, I know grammar.

Glad they decided to keep him in it. Now bring on Adam Warlock, Moondragon, and possibly Mantis! :)

So annoyed at this belief of "cartoony" & such.
It's the same stupidity as trying to bring "realism" & "grounded" to what are COMIC BOOK MOVIES!!!
Don't make these films if you want to avoid that stuff morons!!

The Marvel films, like their comics, know how to make the outlandish & impossible really work.
Nice job on GOTG.

In an alternate universe, this movie was awful and we're complaining the lack of Rocket Raccoon in it.
