Glenn Close Dishes On GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Revealing why she signed on for the James Gunn-directed Marvel adaptation, acting veteran Glenn Close talks a bit about her Nova Prime role in Guardians of the Galaxy. Check out what she offers!

Glenn Close spoke vaguely about her Nova Prime role in Guardians of the Galaxy back in June while she was attending the 18th Nantucket Film Festival. When an attendee of the Q&A had suggested that great thespians, like herself, are lately stuck in big special effects movies instead of great independent films, Close responded that studios have lately become owned by bigger corporations. “I just did two independent films this summer and I had an absolute ball with fantastic actors,” she said. “But in August, I'm gonna go off and do the next generation of Marvel Comics/Disney and I get to be the chief police of the galaxy.” Glenn Close then incompletely uttered that she'd only done the smaller films and wanted to do something different. “But I'm doing that because it will then afford me to go do the other kind of movies that I really love, and hopefully I will have a great time [on Guardians of the Galaxy]. It'll be a new experience for me, but practically speaking it will mean that I can do those smaller movies and it'll be okay.” In related news, Glenn Close apparently started shooting Guardians of the Galaxy today as Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista tweeted that he was “more than star struck by a certain cast member today.” Plus, Twitter also spotted the Nova Prime actress with John C. Reilly, who plays Nova Corps officer Rhomann Dey, as the two attended a live show at the Palace Theatre in London last night. Anyhow, for video of the quotes from Glenn Close above, skip to the 4:52 mark below. What do you think?

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated for August 1, 2014!

I've been watching parks and rec on Netflix and I love Chris Pratt as Andy. He is so god damn funny. He lived in a pit, he has a ban that constantly changes names. Literally, I laugh whenever he talks.

So what she sees this role as a paycheck, doesn't mean she won't do a good job. People work to get a paycheck. I work for a paycheck and i'm great at my job. so calm down

the reason why sooooo many high profile actors are working on comicbookmovies all these latest years is because its becoming one of the biggest genre right now.

Numbers speak for itself.

And to work on a popular franchise like these give the actors more exposure worldwide, so it all works on their favour.

What are all these Glenn Close films you've been watching? Just curious.

Why is there always a dummy who feels that every actor has to be a passionate comic fanboy to deliver a terrific performance in a comic book movie? Heath Ledger didn't give a shit about comics before landing the Joker. Did it affect his performance? These people are professionals and its a job. They burn comics in their spare time as long as they get the job done well for all I care.

I can let Glen Close pass on studying up on the character and actually caring about the source. She is only playing what I assume to be a small role that probably wont be reprised by her. Im cool with it.

SMH @ fanboy stupidity. I am so glad that the fanatics of the comic book community have zero imput in the casting decisions that go into these movies.
