GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY HOLIDAY SPECIAL Trailer Features The MCU Debut Of [SPOILER]!

Marvel Studios has debuted the first trailer for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which sees Drax and Mantis travel to Earth in the hopes of finding... a special someone!

Marvel Studios has shared the first trailer for James Gunn's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will debut on Disney+ this Christmas as a "Special Presentation" akin to the recent Werewolf By Night.

The story focuses on Drax and Mantis trying to cheer Star-Lord up after the loss of Gamora by travelling to Earth in an attempt to locate a very special person: Kevin Bacon!

As previously rumored, the Holiday Special will indeed feature the MCU debut of the Footloose star. It's not exactly a major spoiler, but we didn't want to ruin the surprise in the headline!

Check out the trailer and poster below, along with the official synopsis and cast list - which includes Michael Rooker! If Yondu is set to return, we assume it'll be via either flashback or dream sequence.

In The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, the Guardians, who are on a mission to make Christmas unforgettable for Quill, head to Earth in search of the perfect present. The Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn and The Old 97’s with Michael Rooker and Kevin Bacon.

James Gunn wrote and directed The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Gunn, Sara Smith and Simon Hatt, with David J. Grant and Lars P. Winther serving as co-producers.

The second "Special Presentation" is set to hit Disney+ on November 25.

This actually looks awesome and a lotta fun. The Special Presentation formula could really work for some other properties.

Like I could see a Dr Doom origin special.

Pass

Not a fan of GotG

I like Winter Soldier MCU over Thor Love and Thunder MCU

@WakandaTech - I agree with the overall sentiment here but I do love GOTG when they’re written well. They were good in the first film as well as Infinity War too.

GOTG2 though? [frick]ing woof… terrible.

@WakandaTech - i feel like even if you hate the gotg films, comparing it to l&t feels way too harsh lmao

@WakandaTech - Well, ya know that's the beauty of the MCU now: there's something for everyone (more or less). Like, when I was a kid going to buy comics in my local comic store I usually got Spidey, the X-books, Ghost Rider, and Punisher (sometimes). Never bought a single Avengers comic, anything supernatural (unless it was GR related), cosmic, or fantasy. But still I was picking up like 10 issues a month. And it's not that I had anything against those other titles or genres, I just only had so many resources (i.e. time and money) so I focused on what I liked the most. So that's how I look at the MCU these days: a literal cinematic comics store.

So feel free to browse around and grab whatever strikes your fancy. Shop's open 24/7. If you have any questions/requests you can direct them to K.E.V.I.N. up at the main counter. Thanks for stopping by! 😉

@WakandaTech - Love 'em or hate 'em, I'm not quite getting how you fit the entire Guardians of the Galaxy franchise under the umbrella of the Thor: Love and Thunder movie lol

@Twistedink85 - I wonder if Gunn will introduce a new badass character kinda like the Star Wars Holiday Special did with Boba Fett?

These Special Presentations are going to be huge hits for the MCU.

@thewanderer - As long as they don't dilute the formula it will be a hit. The one-shots were fun fillers and I hope the special presentations add more to the overall universe.

@SonOfAGif - I could see them move to more Special Presentations and less new shows.

Same impact, less cost.

This actually looks pretty good which is great! I just hope the rumor of this being only 40 minutes isn’t true. This deserves a solid hour.

TheHumanSpider2

This trailer alone washed away the bad taste from Black Adam and Ant-Man 3, actual locations, actual actors, actual care put into a movie!
And as glad as I am to finally see Kevin Bacon in one of these movies, I hope Gregg Henry makes a cameo, he is Quill's last living relative, and this is a Holiday Special after all.
JDL
JDL - 10/25/2022, 3:31 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - While I agree with your desire to see Gregg Henry's grandfather character again he would be impossibly old. Peter was snatched in 1988 and in the MCU it's somewhere around 2025.

That said Gramps isn't the only relative left assumming all those people in his mother's hospital room were family and that's a safe bet. Further Gramps could leave Peter a video made in the hope that he would show up again one day.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 10/25/2022, 3:42 PM
@JDL - That's a fair point, but considering his dad wasnt around, Gramps was probably the closest family he had other than his mom...
I remember back in 2014 James said he originally wanted to include him in the montage we see at the end of Guardians 1, looking at the stars missing Peter, but he decided to not include it because the montage was a celebration, and seeing Grampa Quill was pretty sad in that state was quite sad.

I get what you mean, but this movie seems to revolve around how sad Quill feels, meeting his grandpa again would make for a sweet moment.

Arkay - 10/25/2022, 7:54 PM
@JDL - Wasn't he shown in GoTG 2 running from the whatever that was Kurt Russel was creating to engulf the Worlds? I'm going from memory, so not 100%, but pretty sure. I agree it would be good to see him.

@Arkay - I think his scene(s) was a flashback but I could be wrong.
