James Gunn Reveals Hopes For RAVAGERS TV Show In The MCU; Confirms He Wants To Do PEACEMAKER Season 2

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has revealed that he'd love to spotlight the Ravagers in a potential Disney+ series while confirming that he hopes to return for a second season of Peacemaker.

After a brief stint in the DC Extended Universe working on The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, filmmaker James Gunn will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

When Vol. 2 was released, there were rumours that Marvel Studios planned to have Gunn spearhead an entire slate of cosmic adventures, with the Ravagers we met in that sequel a possible priority. Some big names, like Sylvester Stallone and Michelle Yeoh, were enlisted to play those "original" Guardians, and the director has now said he'd love to see them get their own Disney+ series.

"I always thought The Ravagers would be a great show," he said on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast. "Whether that was with Sly Stallone's Ravagers or even more in-depth with just the pirates and what they were doing. I told Kevin Feige that when he first visited set when we were on the Ravagers ship for Guardians 1, I said we should make a Ravagers show. He said if this movie's a hit you can do whatever you want. Still no Ravagers show, so I don't know what happened."

Marvel Studios is putting together a huge slate of TV shows for Disney+, so we can only hope this becomes a reality somewhere down the line. In the meantine, Gunn appears to be eyeing a return to the small screen for an eventual second season of HBO Max's Peacemaker (which launches next January).

"The truth is, I'm awful busy," the director said of that possible Ravagers TV show. "I want to do a Peacemaker Season 2 so that's the only thing I'm committed to if it happens right now."

This is a character Gunn clearly has big plans for beyond The Suicide Squad, and it definitely sounds like he's keen to do more in the DCEU after his return to the MCU for the next Guardians movie.

Reading between the lines with this and that Scorsese story, I feel like James is low key flexing that he doesn't "need" Marvel to be successful. It's refreshing to see him stand his ground and not cower to the whims of studios' desires, especially since he can back it up. I just hope that Marvel recognizes the talent James brings to the table and gives him a bigger sandbox. Otherwise, I wonder if we will see the beginnings of a DC Gunn-verse after GotG 3

@blacksocksdaily - not necessarily that, but just that he clearly prefers working over at WB.

I honestly feel sad seeing Gunn talk about GOTG 3 these days. He doesn't sound nearly as enthused as he used to, and it feels more like a block in the road for him until he gets back to his next project whether at WB or otherwise.

@Kurne - he prefers WB because Hamada doesn’t give him checklists and he gets butt loads of money handed to him to literally do whatever the [frick] he wants.

I would really love to see James step into the role of franchise-sheppard thast was previously inhabbited by Snyder. He can make the DCEU a hit again!

Although I would totally dig a Ravagers Disney+ show starringy Sly Stallone, Michelle Yeoh and Michael Rosenbaum

With Yondu dead, I can’t say that there’s an established character that would make me interested in a Ravagers show. I agree with the general idea of Space Pirates, I’d need a bit more to get excited. I can’t say that the tiny glimpse we got of Stallone and the others in GotG2 did it.

If Gunn wants to do it himself, then sure…. But there are plenty of other properties I’d rather see in the pipeline than Marvel finding “someone” to make a Ravagers show.

James Gunn stop screwing up the original GOTG, with time travel now possible we could have seen them as they should have been in the 31st Centuary

Disney really [frick]ed up by initially firing him over fake outrage from his early day tweeting.

Now Gunn is more focused on DC and any plans they had with him beyond GOTG3 is probably out the window.

LOL the Hamada era continues. Nice dig there, James. Peacemaker it is then.

I wouldn't mind a Ravagers show, but maybe one with younger versions of the characters handles by a different director. Sly is great, but I like him more in a supporting role nowadays

I'd love a RAVENGERS show maybe in the same vein as DOOM PATROL is to HBO MAX or like CW's Legends(with better writing and direction of course)
