Hellboy fans can look forward to a large number of return performances in the planned sequel, according to director Guillermo del Toro.

"You will get new characters from the B.P.R.D. comics," del Toro told Now Playing magazine. "You're going to get Johan, the guy with no body, which is a really great character. And we're going to have a little surprise cameo from one of the villains from the first film."

However, neither Agent Myers or Kroenen will be back "except in cameo form," says del Toro. "I just wanted to clarify this for the sake of any reader interested in being 'up to date' on the developments of the film," he told Superhero Hype.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Tambor, who played BPRD Chief Dr. Tom Manning in the original, says he's psyched to be returning. "I am signed," Tambor told Sci Fi Wire. "Whether they pick that up, I think they will, thank God I'm alive. Some people didn't make it, you know what I mean? Thank God there was that last little thing they filmed [where I'm] going, 'Hello? Hello?'" Manning was left stranded inside the mountain fortress of Rasputin at the end of the original film.
