According to THR..

Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment has optioned the rights to Anne Rice’s Tale of the Body Thief, the fourth book of Rice’s best-selling book series The Vampire Chronicles.

The script will be written by Lee Paterson, and the movie produced by CBM regulars Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The novel, which also spawned a comic book adaptation, is Anne Rice's fourth in her Vampire Chronicles and features Lestat swapping bodies with a psychic so he can experience human life for one day. Unfortunately the psychic isn't quite so ready to switch back at the end of that day. The character of Lestat was portrayed by two actors previously: Tom Cruise in Neil Jordan's Interview With The Vampire and Stuart Townsend in the pretty dire 2002 effort Queen Of The Damned. Although nothing is mentioned, it is extremely unlikely that either actor would reprise the role should the movie ultimately go ahead.

I actually enjoyed Interview with the Vampire, so I guess I'll give this chance I've never read any of her books. Are they any good

This was a great novel, but I hope they get a better actor for Lestat than either of the previous two. I'd love to see Memnoch the Devil on film too, that'd be frakkin' awesome!

@Hellsing - Her Vampire Chronicles are boss! And the Mayfair Witches series is just as good. Give 'em a read!

I am quite sceptical about books with vampires in them now days due to twicrap the only good vampire book i've read recently was Bloodoath (yes I am aware Anne Rice's books came before the emo vamp craze) but i'll give it a go.

My least favorite of the series. After the fiasco that was Queen of the Damned, I'm ok if they don't touch another one of her books.

@Hellsing- it's a great series, give it a whirl.

Gusto, I bought you ticket for the final film. Are we still hitting up the midnight show? Don't forget the glitter!

I think 7 total. The final book actually ties the Vampire chronicles and the Mayfair witches together. It's pretty cool

Good book...not sure how they're gonna make it into a movie though.

Should be enjoyable if they get it right.

Never read thsi one..first two, then straight on to Memnoch: The Devil..don't ask me why! Just the way I picked em up at second hand book stores. Anyway she is a very good writer, nothing "Twilight" about this series.

INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE WAS AWESOME BECAUSE PROYAS DID IT, THE SUTTLE THINGS AND THE WAY IT ALL CAME TOGETHER WORKED WELL..

THEN QUEEN OF THE DAMN CAME UP AND WE GET A NEW LESTAT..

IT DIDN'T REALLY DO IT FOR ME AT ALL, IF THE SCRIPT IS SOLID AND THEY GET THE RIGHT LESTAT ACTOR..IT MIGHT WORK..MIGHT..I DUNNO

'Interview' was great!,

'Queen of the Damned' should of been staked through the heart as it crawled out of its moldy production-stage coffin.

Interview with the vampire is the best vampire movie period. This twilight crap makes me sick. The only problem is Queen of the damn sucked

Terrible idea for a movie. How will the ones that didn't read the book will know of his powers, for example? I'd have taken Lestat the vampire (the second novel) first, then reboot queen of the damned in two parts and then (just then) this.
Cruise is a bad actor but was a good Lestat. Nevertheless, I believe that Brad Pitt would be awesome. If you look for a lesser known actor (cheaper) I'd go with Justin Hartley or, at third, Wentworth Miller.

Anne Rice has stated that she'd pick RDJ for Lestat. I'm not big on the idea as Lestat is supposed to be younger, early twenties or even late teens, not sure though.

Kit harrington would also be a good choice

I think they should've adapted 'The Vampire Lestat' as the second movie instead of 'Queen of the Damned'. I really hated the way they told Lestat's origin in that movie. They got it all wrong! Honestly, the only thing I really enjoyed from that movie was the music.

Queen of the Damned was an abortion. Townsend can't act worth shit and was terribly miscast. That book is awesome and has potential to be an incredible film if done right.

I haven't read the books but I was under the impression from the movie that lestat was meant to be young so I highly doubt rdj or tom cruise they have the chops but sadly not the age.
