According to THR..
Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment has optioned the rights to Anne Rice’s Tale of the Body Thief, the fourth book of Rice’s best-selling book series The Vampire Chronicles.
The script will be written by Lee Paterson, and the movie produced by CBM regulars Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The novel, which also spawned a comic book adaptation, is Anne Rice's fourth in her Vampire Chronicles and features Lestat swapping bodies with a psychic so he can experience human life for one day. Unfortunately the psychic isn't quite so ready to switch back at the end of that day. The character of Lestat was portrayed by two actors previously: Tom Cruise in Neil Jordan's
Interview With The Vampire and Stuart Townsend in the pretty dire 2002 effort
Queen Of The Damned. Although nothing is mentioned, it is extremely unlikely that either actor would reprise the role should the movie ultimately go ahead.
