Zack Snyder is currently doing the rounds to promote Army of Thieves, a prequel to zombie movie Army of the Dead. However, the undead aren't expected to factor into the heist movie; instead, we'll learn more about German safecracker Ludwig Dieter and what led to him becoming known as the best of the best in his field (it arrives on Netflix tomorrow).

We're certainly intrigued by the project, but what about a sequel to Army of the Dead?

During a recent interview with Inverse, Snyder confirmed that it will be titled Planet of the Dead while hinting that Dieter somehow survived being taken by Zeus after he locked Vanderohe inside that vault.

"The real adventure would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don't see him die on camera, and there's still some time left," the filmmaker teased. "I won't tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let's just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there's a chance that brush with death would have caused him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline."

Snyder does tend to play fast and loose with continuity, and often retcons key moments or character decisions in response to what fans want. Still, we'd definitely enjoy seeing more of Dieter in Planet of the Dead, especially as the virus was clearly about to spread across Earth at the end of AOTD

Elsewhere in the interview, the director shared his thoughts on the recent trailer for The Batman. "I really loved [it]," he said. "I think Matt [Reeves] is doing a great job with it. It's right up my alley as far as the tone and I just feel so super, super happy. Super good."

It's got to sting that Warner Bros. is making the sort of dark, R-Rated movie set in the DC Extended Universe he always wanted to. Still, Snyder is busy expanding this zombie universe for Netflix, and we'll hopefully learn more about plans for Planet of the Dead in the not too distant future.
