Awesome Interview With Guillermo Del Toro

Awesome Interview With Guillermo Del Toro

Collider nabbed Del Toro at The Saturn awards last night. He spoke to them for over 20 minutes about a whole bevy of potential projects such as Hellboy 3 and Death: The High Cost Of Living..

Guillermo del Toro Talks THE HOBBIT, HELLBOY 3, FRANKENSTEIN, AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, SATURN AND THE END OF DAYS from ColliderVideos on Vimeo.

Its a long interview, so here are some of the highlights.

Del Toro reveals that a Frankenstein movie is in the works and regular collaborator Doug Jones will play the monster. Says they have already done the sculpting! They are doing a test with Doug very soon

Hellboy 3 will only happen after his next project, he says the screen plays are very difficult to finish for Hellboy movies.

He doesn't say what that next project will be, but he says he wants to make something a bit smaller this time. Says he has narrowed his list of projects he might do to 3 and they all have scripts much further along. Says the script he really wants to do he started 15 years ago!

He said that leaving The Hobbit was "the hardest decision he has made", and when asked if MGM sorted out their troubles, would it be a possibility he would get back on board, he said "it hurts me to even speculate".

Says that a Death movie still very much holds his interest, but both he and the other potential producers are convinced that the only director should be Neil Gaimen.

Says he’s promoting Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark at Comic Con. They are definitely announcing a project there that he will be writing, producing and maybe directing. Says he is at Comic-Con for 3 days to do some shopping.

He says that since he has come home from New Zealand, he has been approached to direct a lot of projects by various studios. He doesn't say anything specific, but reveals that there is "a lot of neat stuff cooking", and a lot of the films would be "geekgasms for everyone".

There is a lot more, mostly just funny asides and tid bits. I recommend you watch the full interview as Del Toro is as hilarious and cool as ever.

Mass, I know, it doesn't seem likely now. I reckon one of those "geekgasm" ones could have been Strange though! But he had to pass:(

@RorMachine - There still might be time after his next one or two. I say marvel hands him the reigns to the entire supernatural side of the universe. It can be like Nolan. He doesn't have to direct but he should be in charge. Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Blade, Zombie, Son of Satan, Brother Voodoo, Morbius, MIDNIGHT SONS MOVIE?!?!? *BLAT!* (head explodes)

Doctor Strange might be something "smaller" if it's going to be one of Marvel's rumoured low budget movies..! Fingers crossed. :)

Good stuff Ror! I saw Collider was going to post this but it was past my bedtime, LOL. I don't think Frosty sleeps.

I would love to sit down with GDT for a half hour (or longer) to just go over his notebook with him.

His Man-Cave sounds truly outstanding-he needs to do a tour of that.

Jugg, man I love that tune! The Enya original is better although that chick does a fine job.

This is the best song from the trilogy for me though..

Del Toro has one thing that most directors don't and that's an imagination. The person that I would most compare him to is Jim Henson. I would love him on any comics project.

@Shaman- I think that Swamp Thing could actually have a smaller budget and still be great.

@ Ror: Me too man. Love that one. I don't think there's a Tolkien lover in the world that's immune to the charms of that song.

Try to imagine it. we are on the cusp of reintering that world.
Middle Earth.

It's just got to be a STRONG director like this guy. Somebody that loves this stuff as much as we do. A story teller.

haha, Tea there is actually a fine line between those songs and cheesy crap, but they stay the right side of it and are awesome! Powerful stuff. Its not my preferred ipod music or anything, but in the context of those films, tehy are perfect.

ManThing
ManThing - 6/25/2010, 9:46 AM
LOL Yeah Ror said it exactly. Because of their relationship with LOTR there's no cheese involved.

This isn't whiny emo shit.
These songs and several others related to the movie convey something about what Tolkien and LOTR fans feel about it and also..

the spirit maybe? The spirit of what LOTR has in store for those who have taken the trip, and inderstand it, and care about it's significance.

DEATH DEATH DEATH!!! Gaiman should just be executive producer, Del Toro has the film-making touch. DAMMIT, GUILLERMO, JUST MAKE DEATH ALREADY SO I CAN DIE HAPPY!!!

Oh.. and Jones will play Frankenstein's monster? Does anyone know if this will be a remake of James Whale's (please God, please) or another adaption of Mary Shelly's?
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 6/25/2010, 12:55 PM
I think I read somewhere that Del Toro wanted to include the Bride from the film, so maybe it is a remake of those.

god sandman would be a hard translation into film,i still think it should be a television show like twilight zone or tales from the crypt! but any format would be awsome, the comic pool is that much smaller and its really a matter of time really! i wonder what projects he spoke of?.....i wonder!?
