Thats a tough one.MoS should beat World War Z because it has wider appeal and many families with even pre teens may choose to by pass it as just too scary.

On the other hand Monsters University comes out the same week and as the first big "kiddie" film, will suck up many families that will avoid World War Z but would have seen a Superman film otherwise had a children's movie not been at the cineplex.

@McGee

Don't overlook the massive appeal Brad Pitt has to middle age women,a lot of whom would never see a Zombie movie if Pitt wasn't in it.

To them Chris Reeve will always be Superman and the only reason they would see Man of Steel is to take the kids.

I could see Paramount making massive add buys on day time
"Soccer Mom" themed shows depicting World War Z as a chance to lose yourself on an adventure with Brad Pitt.Let dad and the teens enjoy the action and mom can drink in Brad.

If a massive amount of that underserved summer movie demo (middle aged women)
turn out for World War Z and young families swarm to Monsters University the three way race could cut into MoS B.O.that Monsters wins the weekend by a nose.

anyway i cant wait for this movie.the book only told the war in parts through interviews so im pretty excited to see it in live-action as it happens. the sequal could do it book style with maybe brad pitts character interviewing people post-war.

The pic looks weird because Pitt's pose doesn't compensate for the lean of the aircraft.Also his hair isn't being blown around.For the poster above that wondered...

IT'S A MOVIE!!!! It's a different take on zombies a much needed different take. If every movie about vampires was like Nosfaratu then we wouldn't have had Dracula(Bela Lugosi),Blade,30 Days of Night,& Interview with a Vampire. And if all zombie movies were like The Night of The Living Dead (which is an awesome movie) you wouldn't haveThe Walking Dead,28 Days Later,& Dawn of The Dead. Zombies have evolved into the sick,gross,half eaten,intestine ripping,brain munching monsters we love. Give it a chance before you guys bash it, & this will not even put a scratch in Supermans box office destruction!!!!

Ravaged by zombies? And zombies start fires why??? This movie will somehow BLOW and SUCK.

@Miles
Relax dude..the destruction the zombies cause ignite the fires.
Without proper safety precautions many fires can & would break out in disasters.

Many zombie movies break with the notion that they move slow all the time,they suddenly get fast when grabbing & biting at people,if actually slow they could barely catch you.

Fast zombies seem an incredible danger..hope movie is good.

loki668 - 4/4/2013, 4:26 AM
I thought that the fires were caused by the friction of the zombies breaking the sound barrier. Seriously, those [frick]ers are FAST!!! Not like Max Brooks' book at all.

Lord Loki has spoken

Pretty good poster, though, I can't say the zombies look as good in the film unfortunately......

They should've shot this on 35mm perhaps with some added grain. Make the VFX at least at 4K and do some more practical.

Yup, there you have it, that's how it should've been done.

The zombies from the trailers look like hordes of CGI ants....It might be a good flick, but it's not going to be as visceral or scary with CGI zombies. Think 'I am Legend' with the vampire zombie creatures. Pretty decent flick but the protagonists weren't very believable with their 'Mr. Fantastic' stretchy mouths. :)

It doesn't even resemble the book in any way, shape, or form.

The book was perfectly written to be an episode based show, maybe on HBO or any of the networks.

This is going to be total shite.

generally speaking movies roll with 1 or 2 types of zombie.
infected. (28 Days Later) where a bite can turn you (without necc killing you first)
and dead returning to life (where a bite will kill you, then you return as a slow lethargic flesh eater (OG Dawn of the dead)

but as few had mentioned, this looks nothing like the book thus far, i hope Brooks made some bank off it though.
amazing book. looks like some execs just said
"well, Zombies are popular, brad pitt owes us a movie.... pow, that was easy"
cole33

This is going to be one of those movies that is far better than the book.

The book was down right terrible. Good idea, but there were no central characters to care about, or follow, no through line. I was reading the book thinking, really? we're just getting "interviews" without any STORY. It felt like i was reading an outline to an actual story.

So the movie HAD to change the book so it could have an actual storyline and characters you care about and can get attached to.

cole33
cole33 - 4/4/2013, 9:34 AM
@DarthJericho

Yeah I get the idea behind the book, I just didn't care for the format, and because there was no central characters to follow, and honestly each interview felt like it followed the same formula. Not enough time with each character to get invested in them, or make them memorable. I just didn't care for the format I guess, it didn't draw me in, just felt like it was a writer who had an idea for a story and was writing these interviews as a way to flesh out the story he wanted to tell and instead just left those interviews as the story.

I honestly just got bored listening to each interview, with nothing at stake because it wasn't the characters *going through the events* but just talking about the events.

And everyone I know that has something critical to say, has those similar criticisms. But then I know others who completely loved it, so it's just a style issue for me.

But I do agree, the movie version does seem like a very different story.

They're pimping this thing out early, but it has to compete with Man of Steel and Monster's University.

It's going to bomb...hard.

What movie has a TV spot 2 1/2 months before its release? A movie that the studio is desperate to find an audience for.
