This whole plotline with a monster killing his wife is generic. He's a good actor as shown here but damn, I don't give a sh*t about any of these characters and it doesn't look like the movie will either.

Its the same old crap of saying lines for trailers constantly that don't work in context of what's happening. He's being detained so of course he chooses to claim they are hiding something which in reality would mean that they would lock you up as they would never let you leave.

The film has potential and I probably will still watch it - but give us something new in the form of something other than the clichéd 'Monster killed someone close to me', 'I watched her die', 'You are hiding something', 'You don't know what you unleashed' bullshit - its not interesting it just limits the possibilities of where you can go with that plotline.

Its the same as saying 'My wife was murdered' in a cop drama - you know at some point he'll either obsess over his wife or go off on his own to find the killer. Occasionally they do a small twist on this where the wife never actually died, but even that is just flipping the situation and its stuff you can guess before you've seen the film.

@Scarilian
And how would you change it? What originality could you invest into this that would make it better? Reasonably better, that would make people care. Or at least, make YOU care, since your not invested simply because it's generic. Because changing or flipping for the sake of it can be just as generic and could make the whole thing terrible compared to how it was originally planned out.

And you don't necessarily know that this movie doesn't care, at least watch the whole thing first before flying off the handle simply because the marketing team isn't giving you more of the character's story. You have to watch the entire film for that. It's easy to nitpick apart something when all of the pieces aren't there.

Given the situation, his situation is believable. People have and can indeed become obsessed over the lost of a loved one, especially if their death was from an external cause that was produced by someone or potentially something. When it's out of your control, like death by aging, than you'll accept it. But if its by a source that created it, be it controlled and then temporarily not, it's a source that is responsible. And those people would get down to the bottom of it by any means within their power. Cliche for a movie? As a trope yes, but it's still a believable emotional development, which believe it or not, still works just fine. And people can still find themselves sympathetically connected and invested because of that emotional understanding.

It may not be anything new, but that doesn't mean that it'll be anything terrible or lifeless.

Just got back from seeing Amazing Spider-Man 2 at Regal Cinema. After the movie I looked around for a Godzilla poster or cut-out or something and saw nothing. Hope Legendary isn't skimping on promoting this outside of trailers. May 16th needs to hurry up and get here because I keep ruining the movie for myself watching all these clips. Can't wait for the return of the KING!!!

What Scarilian wrote may be the biggest piece of incoherent logic I’ve seen here. I’d like the 15 seconds it took to read it back. Try putting some stats behind those numbers. Tell me how many trailers portrayed this type of plot & how many actually played out that way in the movie.

This site has the largest group of people with way too much time on their hands and the most illogical thinking I’ve ever seen on any website about any topic.

For the radical groups that state the internet has ruined the world; they may actually have a case if they came here to prove their point.

My thinking is that the lack of face time for the big guy would make me feel like I had wasted my money. I don't give a shit about the people. I don't want a Godzilla movie to be just another big [frick]ing soap opera.

I'll wait for DVD.
