CHILDREN OF THE CORN: He Who Walks Behind The Rows Returns In First Red Band Trailer

We've lost count of how many Children of the Corn movies have been released over the years, but this latest re-adaptation of Stephen King's story actually looks... decent? Check out the trailer...

Director Kurt Wimmer's re-adaptation of Stephen King's creepy short story, Children of the Corn, is finally set to hit theatres on March 3 for an 18-day window before being made available on demand and digital on March 21, and the first trailer (via FearHQ.com) is now online.

We're not sure what's going on with the return of the '80s-style voice-over man, but this actually looks pretty good - although we can see some fans taking issue with the shortening of He Who Walks Behind the Rows' name to simply "He Who Walks."

It also looks like the Isaac/Malachi dynamic between the leads is going to be quite a bit different from King's story.

Check out the trailer below along with a new poster, and let us know what you think.

The original Children of the Corn came out in 1984, and while it has amassed something of a cult (no pun) following over the years, it's generally seen as a bit of a dud. Its sequels are even worse, and the less said about the previous 2009 remake, the better.

King's story focused on a devout community in the fictional town of Gatlin, Nebraska, who fall under the sway of a demonic entity. One of the children, Isaac, is possessed, and convinces the other kids to massacre the adults as sacrifices to the "god" of the corn.

It sounds like this new take will deviate from the novella quite a bit, however, as "a psychopathic twelve-year-old girl in a small town in Nebraska recruits all the other children and goes on a bloody rampage, killing the corrupt adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.”

The cast includes Elena Kampouris (Before I Fall), Kate Moyer (When Hope Calls), Callan Mulvey (Avengers: Endgame) and Bruce Spence (The Road Warrior).

@Matador - agreed. The kids in this trailer don’t seem creepy at all

Looks well shot for sure but also just as cheesy as the original but at least the kids in that were certifiably creepy. The lead in this trailer comes off as anything but menacing. She’s hamming it up. Seems stiff.

I truly don’t get this movie. How can a town of people that absolutely have guns and know how to use them be overtaken by a bunch of kids with farm tools?

@JobinJ - Cause it's there own kids but get brain washed by whomever it's a safe town where no one really locks the front door. There own kids start killing off there parents.

After that trailer, I'm about as interested in this as I was in the recent Firestarter adaption. (Not at all)

So many adaptions of King's work try and translate creepy and unsettling into thriller and action, and I'm personally tired of it.

Children of the Corn is an interesting little IP. I remember taking a film class, an we spent two lectures talking about it. By all accounts, the story is tailor-made for motion picture. The concept of a group of kids who overthrow their adult guardians and worship a creature who hides in our food?

We interpreted it as a dangerous additive in food that got kids hooked, and when adults denied the food to them, they took drastic measure to get the food back.

The live-action attempts have been bad largely due to the filmmakers who work on this project. It's because they're not very good, and because this is a short story, there aren't enough literary bones for filmmakers to hang their ideas upon. I'm optimistic about this version of the story, but I won't be upset or surprised if it's not good, as well.

@soupysales - i wouldn't be surprised if they took out the "praise the lord" chanting...that segment had a fit after sam smith's grammy performance...they would see kids chanting that and acting possessed just as blasphemous
