Could We See Arnie In "Predators"?

Could We See Arnie In "Predators"?

Apparently Robert Rodriguez is eager to get the Governator back on board the franchise..

Total Film reports that Rodriguez’ team have reached out to Arnies people in a bid to have him reprise his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer in a cameo.

But (thank God!) this wont be a remake/reboot/reimagining...“They’ve written a role for him,” a second source tells the site. “Rodriguez is as against the idea of a straight-up remake as much as anyone – which is why they’re considering this an official sequel to John McTiernan’s film. Like Terminator, they know Schwarzenegger’s a vital ingredient of the franchise. Ideally, Arnold will see it that way too. Ball is in his court now”.

Sounds like a good idea, its a great way to tie this movie directly with the original and maybe erase some of the memories of the AVP movies from peoples minds. It will be interesting to see how they bring Dutch back into the story too.

Well in fairness, it wouldnt have made any sense for him to cameo in Terminator unless Cyborgs age! But i like Smolos idea for this. He should play Dutch as a retired old nutcase, still puffing away on the cigars. And whoever finds themselves up against the Predator this time goes to him for advice or something. I dont think he should be running around with a gun though!

So this will be a sequel, not another damn "reboot"? I'll give this thing a chance then. I enjoyed the original two films (I see AVP as a whole separate thing here), so hopefully they've got some interesting ideas for where to take this. Arnie in a cameo role could be really cool, too.

Im always confused about movie timelines. Predator 2 was set in the future..at least, A future, relative to the time it was made. The streets were shown to be a near constant warzone and all of the cops and the army carried souped up, futuristic weapons. AVP2 was set in present day..again, relative to the time it was made..but thats still years after the events of Predator 2. I saw no souped up weapons of gang warfare! Silly really when you think about it
cindar
cindar - 6/4/2009, 8:07 AM
ive never been bothered by the timeline for one reason, in predator 2 at the end when the main predator throws danny glover the old gun its got 1790 on it or something like that. i always thought that meant one of two things, either the predators live for hundreds of years at a time (beacause he wore the gun as a trophy, like he won it). or that predators can time travel.

I'm just glad it's not a remake! It's not needed. Just a reference to Dutch like in P2 is good enough. P2 just failed because it lacked structure.

Although AVP was shit I actually thought they did quite a good job with the idea behind why these two meet. I was sure it was going to be a totally pointless piece of turd but it started as if they actually wanted to make a credible movie! Then it fell into a totally pointless piece of turd!

So was LA the only city in America that was hit with the Future bug or something? Nah, its just shoddy research and lazy story telling if you ask me.

Cindar i think they can time travel too so that explains a few things, but what about what Grif was saying about the dude from Predator 2 reprising his role in AVP2? Would it have been a younger version of the character? Or was the world sposed to have gone all "nice" again since his boss blasted the Predator with a big ass [frick]ing freeze gun!

I'm pretty sure he said he would've made a cameo in Terminator if they filmed in Cali, but they decided to film in New Mexico instead. I'm sure it will be the same way with Predator. They will either have to film in Cali or wait until he is no longer governor.
TheMyth

@Cindar: They don't have any time travel technology whatsoever, they have a lifespan that is roughly 300 years long. The name for the Predator race, or what they call themselves, is Yautja. They are a hunter society(obviously) who live and train only to hunt other life forms. The more dangerous the prey, the more honorable the kill, which is why they like hunting Humans and Xenomorphs so much. Despite their appearance and apparent lack of compassion, they actually have quite a profound sense of honor, bordering a code of chivalry even. While they certainly have deviants within their society like any sentient race, it is considered dishonorable to kill defenseless entity's (like children or unarmed opponents) and can even be considered a crime amongst their race. They always take trophies from their kills. In the event they encounter a superior warrior of another race, whether this warrior bested a Yautja in combat or the warrior has proven himself in battle alongside a Yautja, they practice a trophy exchange, in which they give said warrior a trophy in exchange for one from the warrior. This is what happened with the old flintlock pistol your referring to. The Yautja who gave Glover that pistol was and Elder of that particular clan and had very probably attained that weapon as a trophy on a previous visit to Earth some 200 years earlier.

I really do not care if they have Arnold or not. I just wish he would save California like he saved people in all of his other movies like Terminator hell or even Kindergarten cop.

This kind of reminds me of Rambo with Stallone... I was concerned and worried about the ancient green beret taking it on again but it was actually a good film. This could be good as well if they don't give him too much. Arnold told Terminator 4 crew to wait a few extra months when he found out they wanted to cast him so that he may change his appearance. He worked out for over 5 months etc... but we all know even Terminator 3 was quite some time ago. We will have to wait and see how much they ask of him.

A perfect idea and it was even suggested once upon a time.

Have the predator movie take place in iraq, land of war and turmoil. What better place for a pred or two to be on the hunt? Oh and because its a war with the U.S. involved guess what? You put a higher ranked Dutch back into the mix. He can be a commander or such trying to instruct a team of special forces men to take this pred out once clues start turning up (like a skinned hanging body) that one may have returned. Could maybe have a final show down but have arnie and some other dude take down the uber pred? Maybe a sort of passing of the torch scene at the end?

Anyway, its an idea that I think would work awesome.

On a sad unrelated sidenote:
Kwai Chang Caine is dead. David Carradine has committed suicide at 72.

And you know, maybe it would be kinda cool to see a female predator?

I'm no predator guru so I dont know what the woman do in their culture but I imagine there are some warrior types somewhere?

Yeah, that sucks about Carradine dying.

I'm glad to hear they are continuing with the Predator movies. I've never seen AVP or the sequel, however I loved the first two.
