The set was constructed at Bourne Woods, near Farnham. Filming reportedly began to take place at the locale beginning on June 21st.

Dark Shadows is based on the 1960s Gothic horror soap opera. It stars Johnny Depp as vampire Barnabas Collins, Eva Green as the witch Angelique, Jackie Earle Haley as Barnabas' servant, Willie Loomis; Michelle Pfeiffer as Collins family matriarch Elizabeth Collins-Stoddard; and Chloe Moretz as her daughter, Carolyn, among others. Release has been reported for May of 2012.

In its time, Dark Shadows was great fun that captured the imagination of millions of housewives and children across America. Among those fans were Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, so it will be interesting to see what their take is on the material.

Hellsing, how old is your dad? I'm 51 and I was definitely one of those kids who lived by what has become a cliche: "I used to run home from school every day to watch it."

People don't realize how big the show was. There were massively crowded public appearances by the stars (especially Jonathan Frid), tons of merchandise, and two feature films spun off from the show.

The funniest thing is that teen magazines at the time used to feature a collage of images that usually included young Donny Osmond, Michael Jackson and David Cassidy, along with 40-something Jonathan Frid. Even as a kid I thought that was hysterical.

The show ended in 1971, and Burton is planning on setting the film in 1972 (before it goes back to the 1790s to tell Barnabas' origin).

i got to read an early on scene for an audition, and from what i saw the script (or at least that segment) looked pretty good. it alsolooks like it will be close to the original, but it also looks like Burton has put a decent stamp on it

I've just started watching the t.v show and I'm totally hooked. It'll be interesting to see how the film is done, I really do hope that it's got a serious tone and not done as a spoof or comedy...

@Kinski

It probably will have a cheeky comedic side, but from the little I saw it seems to be keeping to it's original tone
