Doctor Mantle and Doctor Mantle will see you now.

David Cronenberg's disturbing '80s chiller, Dead Ringers, is getting a small-screen update via a new six-part Prime Video miniseries this April, and the first teaser promo is now online.

Rachel Weisz takes on the dual role of twin surgeons Beverly and Elliot Mantle (played by Jeremy Irons in the film), who share everything, including lovers. When Beverly gradually starts to slip into madness after becoming reliant on prescription drugs, Elliot takes drastic measures.

This series described as a "modern retelling" of the story, so it may make a few changes, but the teaser and synopsis certainly suggest that it'll be a pretty faithful adaptation.

“A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers will feature Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.”

Dead Ringers also stars Britne Oldford (The Umbrella Academy, American Horror Story: Asylum) as Genevieve, Poppy Liu (Hacks, Better Call Saul) as Greta, Michael Chernus (Severance, Orange is the New Black) as Tom, Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty, Saint Maud) as Rebecca, and Emily Meade (The Deuce, The Leftovers) as Susan.

Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Nest, The Iron Claw) directed the first two episodes.

That's cool. Didn't she also play twins in Constantine?

The question we all collectively ask ourselves time and time again, 'what's better than Rachel Weisz?, has now been answered - two of her

@Cap1 - yeah. Two Rachel Weiszes? Sign me up

Ok, this is one of those examples that stretches things when it comes to relevance on this site. Like, what about this is supposed to be interesting to people who come for news on dc and marvel?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/1/2023, 8:38 AM
@Origame - Mayne nothing... but then people who only come here for DC and Marvel news don't have to click on it, do they?
Cap1
Cap1 - 3/1/2023, 8:42 AM
@Origame - the site has very clearly transitioned from a purely CBM news site to a general movie/tv/media news site. It’s been the case for a long time now. Why does it bother you so much? It’s very petty and really, meaningless
Origame
Origame - 3/1/2023, 8:44 AM
@RorMachine - I mean, ok? Guess it's your right to do whatever subject you want.

But by that same extent don't you want to make articles that generate the most clicks possible? And in that case, don't you want to appeal to the audience that comes for COMIC movie news?

Like I'm not saying it HAS to be specifically dc or marvel. Naturally other companies make superhero projects. And projects like John wick have that overlap in the action genre.

Origame - 3/1/2023, 8:47 AM
@Cap1 - it's just a matter of cleaning up the site of sh!t that's irrelevant to why we're coming here. Again, I'm not saying it has to be specifically comic book stuff. But ultimately everyone here is coming for the dc and marvel content. So at least try to choose topics that can appeal to that audience.

Cap1 - 3/1/2023, 8:49 AM
@Origame - Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't speak for 'everyone'. I used to come here purely for CBM news, took note of the fact the website changed its angle, and now come for all sorts of media related news. Hence 'we're' not coming here just for that

@Origame - About 85% of the stuff we cover is still superhero/comic book related, but as Cap1 points out, we started covering the sci-fi, horror and fantasy genres over a decade ago. I know that there are quite a few Cronenberg fans on here thanks to our Crimes of the Future posts, so yes, I figured this would be of some interest.
Origame
Origame - 3/1/2023, 8:56 AM
@Cap1 - I never said I was speaking for everyone. But it's still a common complaint.
Origame
Origame - 3/1/2023, 8:58 AM
@RorMachine - and this isn't Sci fi, horror, or fantasy. Again, I'm fine with going out of the genre if there's some overlap of interests. But I really don't see how a psychological thriller about twins is gonna do that.
Cap1
Cap1 - 3/1/2023, 9:00 AM
@Origame - lmao, you quite literally said 'but ultimately everyone is..'
Origame
Origame - 3/1/2023, 9:00 AM
@Cap1 - ...which they are. If you are coming to a site called comicbookmovie.com for something other than comic book movie news, I just don't know what to tell you.
Cap1
Cap1 - 3/1/2023, 9:02 AM
@Origame - man you're a talking contradiction. First you speak for everyone, then you say you don't, now you say you do. As I've just said couple messages just up there, I don't come here purely for CBM news, haven't for a long time. But what do I know, since you speak for everyone
Origame
Origame - 3/1/2023, 9:08 AM
@Cap1 - you don't come here purely for cbm news...but you do come here for it. That's what I'm talking about when I say ultimately.

Unless you can point to someone here who's not coming here for cbms, my point stands.

Reminds me of Living With Yourself. Although that wasn't as successful. But still, always fun to see actors play twins. Especially if that means getting to see two Rachel Weiszes.

Also, like the choice for the song. It probably has little to do with the show, but I just really like the song.

don't get me wrong.
i LOVE Rachel Weisz.
but this better get a LOT better than the teaser, because it looks like a steaming pile.

and (once again) i LOVED the comic book this is adapted from!

idk man, remaking Cronenberg without Cronenberg is a risk. Like putting Tim Burton's Batman in something not directed by Burton...oh wait

anyway, love Weisz and the story so I'll check it out at least

I will get drunk & imagine Rachel being naked, so I'll enjoy this one way or the other.
