FRIDAY THE 13TH TV Series In The Works

We found out recently that V/H/S director David Bruckner was in line to helm a big screen Friday The 13th reboot, but according to Deadline we'll also be getting a new hour-long tv series based around hockey mask-wearing killer, Jason Vorhees.

It seems Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment think it's a good idea to produce a weekly hour-long tv series based around indestructible murderer Jason Vorhees and his vacuous victims. Original Friday The 13th director Sean S. Cunningham is on board as an executive producer, and had this to say about the project. “Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide.” Apparently writers Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) will script a tale that "re-imagines Jason Voorhees in multiple time periods," and focuses on "the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed." I have no idea what we can expect from this aside from weekly doses of Jason dispatching attractive idiots ad nauseam but I guess we could be pleasantly surprised. Thoughts?

Friday The 13th. One of the few things my girlfriend and I can watch together without incident. Anything that results in less remote-tug-of-wars, less "disagreements", and more sex is never a bad thing for me, so I don't really mind this.

The original show wasnt really Friday The 13th related. If this show focuses on Camp Crystal Lake tgen it could be good. I am actually excited for this and the new reboot.

I love the franchise. The movies may bot be scary but they are a hell of a lotta fun.

This literally sounds like one of the worst ideas ever to come to TV, this is just sad.

Its a better idea than a Rosemary's Baby tv series

Know what we need? A new Nightamre on Elm Street tv show with Robert England. The original was okay.

Also i hope they give us interesting characters and they dont focus much on Jason. Just have him be a force of nature thay kills off the cast

I'm fairly certain this too will be a critical and financial failure. It's time to just let this franchise rest in peace for a decade or so.

Well, now that the actual series description is up, this sounds a bit interesting. Could wind up great like Bates Motel, or an uninspired pile of shit like Hannibal. We'll see. Either way, it'll be much, much better than a found footage reboot.

Ok, my maniacal rant notwithstanding, I like the idea of a found footage Friday the 13th film. But it needs to go more the way Chronicle or Project X was filmed and not so much Paranormal Activity. You can't just see nothing for 80 minutes and then something that may or may not be Jason in the last five minutes of the movie.

As for the idea of a show, I mean no one asked for a Norman Bates show or a Hannibal Lecter show and those have been done really well. And I have to admit as a teenager I enjoyed Freddy's Nightmares. So MAAYBE there's something to that idea. Maybe.

@MrFridayNights There have been good and bad films in both series. Or need you be reminded of Rob Zombie's 'evil white trash' take on Michael Myers?

I actually thought the Halloween remake by Zombie was pretty good, the 2nd one did suck balls though...

Freddy vs. Jason was AWESOME. I loved it. And [frick] Friday the 13th, gimme Nightmare on Elm Street! Freddy is the king of the 80's slashers!

this sounds cool I miss horror tv I mean the closest thing we have now is Hannibal which is really good I don't know if id consider it horror though

there was a Friday the 13th tv show a long while back but it didn't have anything to do with Jason
it was about some people who worked in an antics shop I think
I don't know I sat down n watched a marathon of it years back

Really?... No thanks. The following is already a show that kills about twenty people an episode, and this would just be worse with an invincible character that doesn't talk. Let's see that south park film happen instead

@MercwithMouth I've heard the same. Perhaps I simply haven't seen enough of it to witness its footing being founding. There were a few positives from the episodes I watched. Will Graham's portrayal is probably the best thus far, and the way he envisions the crimes is very interesting and new. That said, Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal possesses nothing of the character I know beyond a degree in psychiatry and a peculiar diet, and that killed the show for me.

Jason was the king of 80s slasher movies! [frick] Freddy lol this can be a good show...and yes I've herd better things about Hannibal than bates motel..so I don't know what's wrong with that guy lol
