Jack O'Connell has confirmed that his character in A QUIET PLACE PART III is the brother of Cillian Murphy's Emmett. The SINNERS and 28 YEARS LATER actor made the disclosure in an interview with Collider at the Newport Beach Film Festival, according to Wednesday reports from JoBlo and Dread Central.

"Cillian and I play brothers," O'Connell said. He also described the production as having a family feel, both in the story and among the cast and crew. JoBlo adds that he said he is glad to be part of the film while horror is enjoying a surge in popularity.

The reports do not name O'Connell's character or explain how the relationship fits into the story. Paramount Pictures has not announced either detail, and the studio has not released a synopsis for the film.

Who Emmett Is

Murphy joined the franchise in A QUIET PLACE PART II (2021) as Emmett, a former neighbor of the Abbott family who had withdrawn from everyone after losing his own family in the alien invasion. He turned the Abbotts away at first, then helped Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) and her children, and joined Regan Abbott's (Millicent Simmonds) effort to broadcast the high-frequency feedback that incapacitates the creatures.

JoBlo describes the brother as a previously unconfirmed family connection for Emmett. The reports do not say where O'Connell's character has been during the invasion, whether the two men were separated, or how large the role is.

The Cast and the Calendar

O'Connell's casting was announced in March alongside Jason Clarke and Katy O'Brian, as TheWrap reported at the time. Blunt, Simmonds, Noah Jupe and Murphy return from the earlier films. Murphy and O'Connell also share a recent credit: both appeared in 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE, a pairing Netflix Junkie highlighted in its coverage of the brothers news.

John Krasinski is writing, directing and producing the third chapter, after directing the 2018 original and the 2021 sequel. Michael Sarnoski directed the 2024 prequel A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, which followed new characters during the first days of the invasion in New York City. Together, the three films have grossed more than $900 million worldwide, according to TheWrap.

Production began in New York in May, when Krasinski shared a first-look photo from the shoot on social media, as the Motion Picture Association reported. Paramount has kept plot details under wraps.

The film's date has also moved. JoBlo reported the shift from July 9, 2027 to July 30, 2027, three weeks later than first planned.

What's Next

Still unconfirmed: the name of O'Connell's character, how the brothers' history will play into the story, and whether the family connection will drive the plot or sit in the background. When Krasinski announced the cast additions in March, he welcomed both returning and new members of the franchise's family, according to TheWrap, but he has not publicly discussed how the characters relate to one another.

A QUIET PLACE PART III is scheduled to open in theaters on July 30, 2027. No plot synopsis or character name for O'Connell has been released.
