With the Evil Dead remake generating positive critical and commercial success, one would almost figure it would be a good time to deliver a sequel to the Fede Alverez movie. However, with the recent announcement of the TV show with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell on board, questions have begun to circulate regarding the future of the reboot timeline.
Actress Jane Levy, star of the remake says:
I don't think they're gonna make it. I mean, they're always coming up with a new thing- now I hear they're making a TV show. I was like, what? [Laughs] I think they just like exciting their fans and confusing them. I honestly don't know, but it doesn't seem like there's going to be an EVIL DEAD 2 anytime soon. At least, not with me in it.
With countless rumors of an Army of Darkness sequel, a sequel to the remake, and so much more; Levy is certainly right, it's been oddly confusing as to the current and future direction of this beloved franchise. With the TV show confirmed, it would seem that Raimi has decided to leave the reboot behind and focus on using Bruce as Ash, a character and actor he's comfortable with.
This also doesn't necessarily mean the TV show couldn't have Jane in a multi-episode arc or even have her be a deadite that Ash slays in the first 10 minutes of the TV show (I prefer the latter honestly).
What do you guys think? Are you disapointed by this news? Excited? You know where your opinions go.
