Matthew McConaughey Circles THE DARK TOWER - But Will He Play The Hero Or The Villain?

The Interstellar actor may have passed on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but word is he is keen to strike a deal with Sony and MRC to play a lead role in their big-screen take on Stephen King's The Dark Tower - and apparently he's been given the choice of Deschain or O'Dim.

According to The Wrap, Matthew McConaughey is in early talks to play one of the leads in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. Insiders claim he's been given the option to portray either Roland Deschain, or his nemesis the evil Man In Black/Walter O'Dim, and is leaning towards the latter.

McConaughey was also rumored to be up for the villainous role of Randall Flagg (actually the same demonic character as O'Dim... kinda) in another King adap, The Stand, but evidently he's more drawn to the project that heads into production first.

Apparently it's early days and no deal has been struck, but both parties are interested in working something out. The Dark Tower is currently set for a January 13th, 2017 release

Read the 1st book, very interesting world and very mysterious. Would work good as a show on amc or HBO too.

This is a great casting, but they now need someone awesome to play Roland like Michael Fassbender or Christian Bale!

Oh hell yeah! The Dark Tower is my favorite book series and honestly MM would be great as either Roland or Walter/Flagg. It would be great if he played the role in The Stand as well.

He turned down the villain role in GOTG 2 because he wanted to become a better villain in this.

From what I heard he is going to be the villain and he is going to play Flagg in several different movies that will connect all of the King films.

One of the best book series, but I wanted it as a TV show instead. It just would work better that way. As for Matthew being one of the actors I'm all for it.

I liked the books, but my interest in a cinematic version was zero until I heard the sweet magic words: Matthew Mc Conaughey. He should totally play the ... I don't want to call him "hero" but that cowboy dude.

He'd be a perfect Randall Flagg/Walter O'Dim.
Now please cast Viggo Mortensen as Roland… he was born for that role.
