"New Meg. Old Chum."

Warner Bros. has debuted the first trailer and some posters for The Meg sequel, The Trench, and if you were a fan of the first movie, it's safe to say you're going to be suitably hyped after checking out this insane footage!

The teaser begins back in prehistoric times, and we get to see just how lethal the Megalodon can be when it leaps out of the water to chow down on a T-Rex!

We then jump to modern day, as rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is called in to deal with more strange occurrences deep beneath the waves, as three Megs - and several other massive creatures, from the looks of things - escape the trench and begin to cause havoc.

There seems to be a giant octopus or squid, and we've previously heard that an alligator-like Kronosaurus will also be unleashed.

Check out the trailer and posters below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

"Get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush this summer in Meg 2: The Trench, a literally larger-than-life thrill ride that supersizes the 2018 blockbuster and takes the action to higher heights and even greater depths with multiple massive Megs and so much more! Dive into uncharted waters with Jason Statham and global action icon Wu Jing as they lead a daring research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal Megs and relentless environmental plunderers, our heroes must outrun, outsmart, and outswim their merciless predators in a pulse pounding race against time. Immerse yourself in the most electrifying cinematic experience of the year with “Meg 2: The Trench” – where the depths of the ocean are matched only by the heights of sheer, unstoppable excitement!"

Sienna Guillory (Clifford the Big Red Dog), Skyler Samuels (The Gifted), and Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Snowfall) recently joined the cast in supporting roles. Peris-Mencheta will play the villain, "a hard-edged mercenary," Guillory is the head of an applied sciences division, while Samuels is "an adventure-loving member of the submarine crew."

Surviving Mana One crew members Cliff Curtis, Sophia Cai and Page Kennedy will also return.

The first movie's writing team (yes, it was a group effort) of Jon and Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris penned the script. Ben Wheatley, who is best known for disturbing/surreal movies such as Kill List and High Rise, is directing.

It's quite the departure for the filmmaker, although he did take a step closer to more mainstream fare with action flick Free Fire, and signed on to helm the sequel to 2018's Tomb Raider reboot last year before parting ways with the project.

The first Meg was great 5 stars / 5 stars. I saw The Meg several times at the theaters and bought it on Amazon. I can watch it over and over again. I'm very excited for The Meg: The Trench will be there opening night.

The first one was oddly enjoyable. I’ve seen it maybe a dozen times - it seems to always be on at 3am whenever I can’t sleep 😂
The second one deserves a chance.

So this is what happened to that Trench movie.

@ObserverIO - Was about to say the same thing. I guess that at this point any version of a "Trench" movie that Wan might end up doing would kinda seem like a rip-off of this one. Unless... are we starting a "Trench" movie subgenra?

Like, Dwayne Johnson could do a "The Trench: Surviver" movie where he's a retired Navy Seal and the only one capable of saving a lost Trench exploration crew (with a tagline of "No one Trenches on my watch" and then Vin Diesel could do his version called "2 Trench 2 Deep" where he has to rescue his "family" from the Trench with a 970 Dodge Charger R/T modified for deep sea diving and a tagline of "When you Trench, you're family", AND let's forget the inevitable old action stars team-up movie called "Trenchables" where you have one team of retired deep sea divers with Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone vs another team of retired deep sea divers Danny Glover and Mel Gibson racing to the Trench to stop the villain (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from cracking it open and releasing all the prehistoric creatures that exist in there somehow with a tagline of "I'm getting too old for this Trench".

Dude, I would pay to watch every one of those movies. In a theater. Well, maybe not the Dwayne Johnson one because he's getting a little too "playing Dwayne Johnson" all the time. But the third one, HELL F**KING YEAH! Giddy up!

Wasn't crazy about the first movie, but I do love the full embracing of the campy nature, cause it just ridiculous fun.
