Melissa McCarthy Eyed For Lead Role In GHOSTBUSTERS; Other Actresses Also Named

The cast of Paul Feig's Ghostbusters is finally beginning to come together, with Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy emerging as the first actress to be in talks for the lead. However, a number of others are being considered for key roles, and you can find out who after the jump...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Melissa McCarthy (The Heat) is being eyed for the lead role in Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot. She's apparently in early talks, but her movie and TV schedule may end up stopping her from accepting. However, both sides are hoping to work something out, with the plan apparently to shoot Ghostbusters in June. The site adds that, "The Ghostbusters reboot is said to be an origin story of new characters who take up ghostbusting and not a "hand off" movie from the original 1984 film (though there is a small chance that surviving Busters Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson could make cameo appearances)." Despite the fact that they've both expressed interest, neither Jennifer Lawrence or Rebel Wilson are contenders, but Emma Stone is "available". Meanwhile, Jillian Bell (Workaholics) and Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live) are due to meet with with Feig. What would you guys think about these casting additions?

I'm usually not full blown against a movie but I am so not into this movie. Maybe a trailer will change my mind but for now... no.

Seriously, is this news? Paul Feig is going to cast simmilar to Bridesmaids. And Melissa has already been on record as being interested in this movie. Paul Feig seems to enjoy working with female ensembles. So like it or not -and I don't -we are in for a female Bridesmaids version of Ghostbusters.

McCarthy is way, way, way overused now. She was funny for her first big break, but she's not anymore. Thumbs down for obvious mainstreaming
