With Kong: Skull island performing very well at the box office, Legendary Pictures' shared giant monster movie universe (KaijuVerse?) appears to be shaping up nicely. Their direct sequel to Gareth Edwards' 2014 reboot, Godzilla: King of Monsters, has already attracted a very impressive cast which includes Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler, and now it seems one of the many breakout stars of Straight Outta Compton will also be coming on board.

According to Variety, O'Shea Jackson Jr. is in talks for a key role, but no mention is made of his character's name of what part he'll play in the story.

Though none of the main cast members from the first film are expected to return, Ken Watanabe will reportedly be back as "let them fight" guy.

Godzilla: King of Monsters is set to stomp into theaters on March 22nd, 2019.

@ForceOfLegend - I think King Ghidora would be a good villain for the Kong vs Godzilla film. They won't want to upset fans of both by making one of them win so Ghidora would be the right challenge and "distraction" to make them unite and kick it's three-headed ass.

@NinnesMBC - Yeah, I'd be severely disappointed if Kong vs Godzilla was the primary plot driver. The way they've both been portrayed, they're fairly heroic so it makes no sense for them to fight beyond a misunderstanding and then end the fight on a draw so they can team up on the main monster.

I kind of hope they save King Ghidora for a Mothra/Godzilla/Kong team up movie (Monsterverse Avengers basically) instead of having it just be the two of them vs ol' triple threat.

If Mothra is ever made a villain though, I'm out. Mothra's basically the most heroic monster in the old Godzilla movies.

@NinnesMBC - I agree. However from what I gather. The Godzilla sequel will feature Mothera, Rodan, and Ghidora. I'm surr there will be a worse threat in Godzilla vs King Kong. I doubt it will be Ghidora since he is being used next year in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

@NinnesMBC - No man. That was the issue with the whole BVS and Civil War with them cramming enemies when the advertised conflict is more than enough. Especially with King Ghidora is worthy of facing Godzilla in his own movie. Honestly, since both Godzilla and King Kong have lost before in their previous movies, and Godzilla losing this match before, I really don't see that much hate for such a decision.

Cool, he was great in SOC. Also saw that Ken Watanabe was the only original 2014 cast member to come back as well. This one is shaping out to be great, but hopefully we get more monster action that was teased in that movie.

I just saw Kong yesterday, and had A TON OF FUN watching it, it's like a big budget B-movie, a great time, and made very excited about the next Godzilla film, that post-credit scene was very neat.
