The James Gunn-produced
Brightburn is one of this year's most intriguing movies, flipping the superhero genre on its head and turning it into a horror. Directed by David Yarovesky, the movie takes the classic superhero trope of an alien crash-landing on Earth and fighting to save humanity, and instead imagines the child from another world becoming "something far more sinister."
Ahead of its Memorial Day weekend release, Sony Pictures has shared an extended clip from
Brightburn that offers a lengthier look at the horrific diner scene shown briefly in some of the trailers. As a red-band clip, it should be noted that some of what's shown here is rather gruesome and disturbing - but it does paint a pretty clear picture of what fans can look forward to when
Brightburn flies into theaters this month.
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
Brightburn stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner, and is set to hit theaters on May 24.
