Casting has commenced for a few different 2017 horror films that are all set for release this fall. While it was unprecedented that all of this news would come at once, we have juicy details regarding the origin of Jason Voorhees in the thirteenth Friday the 13th, which Supergirl star will be playing a game in the new Saw movie, and more where that came from. Shall we dig in?

SAW: LEGACY

Our first story comes straight from Variety, who has provided our first casting information for the eighth film in the Saw franchise. Although character details are being kept under wraps, it seems that actress Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl in Smallville; Brainiac in Supergirl) will be featured in Saw: Legacy alongside Hannah Emily Anderson. Although the Saw films used to be released on an annual basis, Legacy will be the first film in the franchise since the ironically titled Saw 3D: The Final Chapter hit theatres in 2010. But as horror fans should know, any franchise film with the word "Final" in the title is rarely ever the final one. Legacy is currently in post-production and set for release on 27 October 2017. The film will be written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, and directed by Michael and Peter Spierig.

FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART XIII

The upcoming reboot of Friday the 13th, titled Friday the 13th Part XIII, is currently casting for a shoot that will take place from 19 March to May 4 of this year with pre-production set in Conyers, Georgia. But the following excerpt is where things get interesting:

REQUIREMENTS/ROLE(S)

[YOUNG JASON] – Male, Caucasian, 12 years old ONLY SEEKING IDENTICAL TWINS W/ TV AND FILM CREDITS. MUST BE UNDER 5 FOOT. NO EXCEPTIONS. Lengthy and awkward. A dark, ominous child, who has severe psychological issues. Must have a very electric and expressive face (you will be painting the scene with your facial expressions), as this role does not speak. YOUNG JASON will grow into the pyscho-killer JASON. SUPPORTING ROLE. MUST BE ATLANTA BASED.

Given the film's plot, it's easy to think that there might be a reveal that Jason Voorhees will have a twin brother. However, it is best to keep in mind that child actors can only legally work for so many hours, therefore they be looking for twin actors to play the same character, that of young Jason. The film will also feature the return of Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees, as well as the debut of his father Elias.

Friday the 13th Part XIII will be released on 13 October 2017, and will be an origin story that will explain why Jason cannot die (even though such an explanation was provided in Jason Lives, with Jason Goes To Hell strongly hinting that the Necronomicon was the source of his powers). The film is written by Nick Antosca and Aaron Guzikowski, and directed by Breck Eisner.

CULT OF CHUCKY

According to ComingSoon.Net, actress Grace Lynn Kung (Grace Wu in The Strain) will be joining the cast of Cult of Chucky, the seventh film in the Child's Play series that stars Brad Dourif (Chucky), Fiona Dourif (Nica), Jennifer Tilly (the Bride of Chucky), Summer H. Howell (Alice), and Alex Vincent (Andy), all reprising their roles from the previous films. The film will be set in a mental institution, where the protagonist from Curse of Chucky has been led to believe that Chucky is a construct and that she murdered his victims. In Cult of Chucky, all of the franchise's three storylines (one from Child's Play 1-3, one from Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, and one from Curse of Chucky) will converge. The film is written and directed by Chucky creator Don Mancini, and will be released Unrated in the direct-to-video medium sometime this fall.

I remember cheering so loud in the theater for this. I didn't think it would take ten more [frick]ing years to get the fight.

@thor2273 -
Yeah, development hell will do that to a film. Though it was probably for the best. Some of the earlier versions of the FVJ script were pretty bad.

This new film has been delayed a lot, too. It has also gone through multiple forms. At one point, it was a sequel to the 2009 reboot set for release in 2010. At another point, it was going to be found footage. There was even going to be a F13 television series at the CW that didn't go anywhere.

@Darkknight2149 - From inside sources:

-The Batman will primarily take place in Arkham.
-Affleck and Geoff Johns want to make sure it is nothing like Nolan's trilogy.
-The screenplay is being described as a mix of "Die-Hard" meets Arkham Asylum.
-It's heavily influenced by The Arkham series.

-In terms of Justice League, it was initially SUPPOSED to carry the same DARK TONE as Dawn of Justice until Geoff Johns said they should "Marvel it up." (actual quote from video).
-Justice League will mash up Superman: Reborn and The Steppenwolf comics.
-Margot Robbie and Jared Leto MIGHT cameo in Justice League.
-The source, different from the others, claim that Justice League is a mess, but "fixable."
-According to this same source, Wonder Woman does have issues, but "fixable."

-As of now, Aquaman has been going very well, 0 drama; the studio is really excited about it.
-The Flash is currently on ice and all depends on how well he is received in Justice League.
-According to the sources, Warner Bros. plan on introducing Shazam in MAN OF STEEL 2; Dwayne Johnson will also appear.
-GEORGE MILLER is Warner Bros.'s #1 pick to direct MAN OF STEEL 2. At the moment, no deal has been reached.

This source is kind of reliable since their series of Ghostbusters videos prior to the film's release were spot on.

@Invictor - Honestly it's time we got an actual Robin in a Batman movie. If it were up to me, the Batman film would've been a combination of Batman: Hush and Under the Hood, where all the Jason Todd parts of Hush are filled in with his actual resurrection, and with one of the subplots being Tim Drake stepping in and showing Batman why he needs a Robin. It would deal with bringing Batman back to where he began, and using Jason's death as what unhinged Bruce and brought him to be able to kill in BVS.

Also, I know this is what everyone says, and there are way other Flash storylines to work from, but I really want the first Flash movie to be Flashpoint. Just establish his origin in Justice League, so we can get right into the action. The groundwork for it is literally perfect. Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne would be incredible, they could Steve-Rogers Cavill, and we've already got Cyborg as an important figure in this universe.
