Universal will be developing the sequel/prequel and director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is to helm the project.

From Twitter:

Universal's prequel to John Carpenter's classic thriller "The Thing," is due to begin filming March and continue till June in Toronto.

The movie plot of this prequel as reported on the web but could change, apparently will focus on the Norwegian camps in the Antarctic that were ravaged by the alien first before the good old USA discovered the decimated camps.

LEEE777 - Sounds cold. Hey let's hope Kurt Russel gets some kinda cameo in this to keep it feeling "The Thing" and keeping a connection to the first one, a sci-fi classic.
