Like many who saw the low-budget frightener Paranormal Activity, I left the theater wondering, "What happened to Katie?" Now, IDW is publishing the Paranormal Activity spin-off, "The Search for Katie," as a digital comic through iTunes and Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch.

Veteran comic book scribe Scott Lobdell (X-Men) is handling the writing duties while Mark Badger (Batman: Jazz) handles the art chores.

From MTV SplashPage:

"The story explores what happens after the film concludes and follows the mentioned, but never seen, demonologist Dr. Johann Averys on his search for the demon-plagued Katie."

Solid movie. I was never really "scared" while watching it, but an impressive effort, in the vein of The Blair Witch. People in the audience were freaking out. The best quote I heard after the movie:
"I'm gonna change my Facebook status to 'scared sh*tless!'"

@SHH: Yeah, I found it pretty slow, too. Still, pretty impressive the amount of money it made considering how much it cost to make.

I havent seen the theatical version as I couldnt get to the cinema to see it and I had to watch the original 2007 version.

Personally, I think the original ending was much better than the new ending (I havent seen the new ending so Im just going by what I've read about it) but overall I thought it was an excellent movie!

The bits between when they were in the bedroom could drag on a little but overall it was a pretty damn shocking film and probably one of the best horror movies I've seen!

I really liked it. Wasn't as scary as it was made out to be but very effective. By the way, who is Katie? The main chick? In the version I saw she is shot by the cops at the end??

bsprecher - 12/9/2009, 7:04 PM
WTF?!? Josh/Ror, what version did you guys see? I've only seen the one in the states that has a wide open ending. Katie is never shown at the end of the version I saw. The movie just ends.

@Ozy: :)

@grif: And there's that opinion, yes.

JoshWilding - 12/9/2009, 7:08 PM
Brent: I saw the same version as ROR where the police come to the house, find her boyfriends body (off camera) and the movie ends with them shooting her after the demon leaves her body and startles the cops by banging a door behind them!

OZY: Do you really have to put ;) on every article because that isnt really a comment, lol!

@josh: Crazy! I want to see that! I guess they changed it so they could leave it open for a sequel and/or this comic thingee they're doing.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 12/9/2009, 7:21 PM
Brent: It was on YouTube but I just looked and they've removed all of the vids featuring that ending and I cant even find it on the site I originally watched the full movie on so it looks like Paramount have clamped down on the leaked version pretty quickly!

I'm guessing you're right about the reason why though - its like with The Descent...the version we had in the UK ended completely differently to the US version which ended in a way to allow a sequel (which has just been released I think)

It made $7.1 million over the first weekend.

I liked it. It was fun. An old couple tore out of the theater like they had been lit on fire. One of em kept slamming into stuff

@grif i agree i could have watched a tv show blindfolded and been more scared from not being able to see. that movie made me wanna scoop my eyes out with a spoon and not because its scary

thwhtGuardian - 12/9/2009, 8:30 PM
I didn't find it to be that scary, but I might check this out because I've been really impressed by what I've read from IDW. Their doctor who comic is really well done.

Might check this out, the movie was pretty disappointing. I did like how they handled the suspense though. I just feel like the the real quiet moments helped boost the paranormal events.

However, I hated the quick video shot of some random possessed person who chews off it's arm. I couldn't stop laughing on how bad it looked.

I didn't see the theater version, only the original with the weak ending of the cops gunning the chick down. It was pretty bad. I do agree with Guardian though IDW can bring out some good stuff, so it might even be better than the movie.

I never saw that ending! I'm with Brent...the one I saw just ended. It was a pretty good show, I'm not going to lie, it freaked me out a bit.
Stumblin

Oh I liked the beginning parts, but it fell apart much like Blair Witch Project, it started strong but didn't deliver towards the end.

Believe me ecksmanfan the ending released in theaters was a lot better, the ending I saw was almost comical. Look it up on YouTube, it's around there somewhere.

Brent-- The ending where Katie gets shot is the original ending that was available for download before the theatrical version was released. I believe the rumor mill says that Speilburg himself suggested they change the ending for the wide release. I guess so there would be unanswered questions at the end so they could do stuff like this.

Steven Spielberg was the one that had the director reshoot the ending

I don't have to see the monster, I just wrote about how gore is over used and psychological terror is where it's at...but this movie wasn't developed enough. Like the blair witch project before it, paranormal activity really tried for that hitchcock level of suspense and terror but it fell short. It just wasn't thought out all the way. But I agree the theatrical ending was better.

Pretty great movie.

Nothing else could make an adult have a little 30 lb dog accompany him to the bathroom...

It was only for 2 nights.

I felt very ripped off. After this movie. Me and a couple of my friends were ready to leave the theater after the 1st 20 minutes of the movie, because nothing happen, and when we though something was gonna happen only the door moved. The movie never got really good until the last 30 minutes of the movie, and then it was over. What a rip off.

Lol, my birthday is October 8th, so I liked the big finale on my b-day. Anyways, I too felt ripped off. I studied demonology (as a hobby) back in high school and come to find out that who ever wrote the movie, don't know their stuff. Yes, she was possesed by a demon and the footprints on the floor were tri-toed (a true demon's footprint) BUT a demon doesn't play games like throwing keys and slaming doors. A POLTERGIEST on the other hand, has nothing better to do than play games. So the movie jumbled the 2 supernaturals together. Get what I'm saying? It's like having a Hulk movie with Hulk wearing Tony's iron suit.

That is what Blair Witch was. Exactly as you explained it. And then you say that is what it should have been? Uh...

@Fartman I thought it was a decent movie, though unfaithful. Tim Curry was really the only good thing about it.
