RESIDENT EVIL Movie Adds GOTHAM Star Donal Logue As A Key Character From The Video Games

The Resident Evil reboot has added another key cast member, with Gotham star Donal Logue set to portray a popular character from the games. He's not the only name that's been added to the movie, though...

Deadline confirms that Gotham alum Donal Logue is the latest addition to the Resident Evil reboot that's currently in the works. The trade explains that he's set to play Chief Irons, the Chief of Police of the Raccoon Police Department. He was deeply involved in corporate corruption, taking bribes from Umbrella U.S.A. to keep the company out of investigations.

How he'll be portrayed in this movie remains to be seen, but chances are it won't be all that different to the games (and things get seriously twisted for him as his story unfolds).

Logue, who played Detective Harvey Bullock in Gotham, is not the only new addition to Resident Evil, though. Chad Rook (Weather Wizard, The Flash) and Lily Gao (Evelyn Chu, The Handmaid's Tale) have also joined the movie; unfortunately, their roles have yet to be revealed.

Set in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City, the film - which is set to receive a theatrical release - has so far assembled a cast that includes Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield alongside Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

No release date has been revealed, and we have no idea when production begins (for obvious reasons). What, if any, connection this will have to that Netflix series in the works remains to be seen.

Was one of the highlights of Gotham.

Hopefully its good, honestly thanks to The Walking Dead, id say people have zombie fatigue.

Think HBOMax has Night Of The Living Dead and Day Of The Day (for some reason no Dawn Of The Dead), might check those out.

@dracula - The US rights for Dawn of the Dead is held up by the producer Richard Rubenstein. He spent millions on converting the movie to 3D and has been trying to secure distribution ever since. So no one has been able to license it in the US to re-release. Overseas companies can, and if you really want to see it, someone uploaded a 4K version of the theatrical cut on youtube.

He is a great actor, and one of my favourites in Gotham. :)

He was my favourite part of what little I've seen of Gotham. Also I can't let a Donal Logue article go without recommending the prematurely cancelled show Terriers:

Of all upcoming Resident Evil movies or shows coming up, this is probably the one I'm most excited for (although I think that if they're gonna do the story of the first 3, they need atleast a trilogy or tv show)

The casting is decent, aside from Leon. Thats almost laughable lol but I'll still give it a chance

With this cast of characters it doesn't sound like they are starting with the mansion and moving on from there. If they are it seems weird that Claire and Leon would be there. I'm interested though. It seems like it will be much better than the other films we got.

@CorndogBurglar - They should start with the mansion but do "flashbacks" to explain the story.

@sparkadv - What kind of flashbacks though? The mansion is their first time coming across the zombies and T-Virus. So there wouldn't be any flashbacks of the characters in the movie.

They should just follow the games for once. Resident Evil is one of the few video game franchises that isn't so outlandish and silly that its hard to adapt. It SHOULD make a great movie series.

Just start with the first game. Have Chris, Barry, Jill, and Wesker be the main characters with some of the other lesser STARS members so some people can die. Have them go up in the mountains/woods to investigate some torn up bodies that were found out there. Then get chased into the mansion by zombie dogs. Throughout the first movie they discover Wesker is working for Umbrella and they can learn all about the T-Virus. The only flashbacks should maybe be Wesker remembering some of the things he's been involved in.

Then the 2nd movie should be about Raccoon City getting overrun by the zombies that got loose from the mansion. Its Leon's first day on the job and he shows up to a town overrun.

This isn't hard. Its sitting right there just waiting to be adapted lol.

@CorndogBurglar - Me personally, I think the best way to tackle the Mansion Incident would be an episodic format. However that ain't the case here, but I agree that The Mansion and Arklay Incident should be mainly present. We do need however further backstory to explain the events of Resident Evil 0 to a degree to set up a prologue of sorts. Or at least easter eggs of those events laid out in the Arklay Mountains/Forest for the to find, and go, "WTF?" Then cut to what you were saying about them running into the Ceberus dogs.

Did you ever happen to catch that fan made proof of concept called, "Arklay"?

@SatsuiNoJXA - No I haven't heard of Arklay, but I'm going to look it up right now!

@SatsuiNoJXA - I just watched Arklay. That had a ton of potential. But something like that would be great. I love Resident Evil and have played every game since the original came out. But I can tell you, the last thing I need or want is another cheesy action series.

Something like this thats taken seriously and is genuinely creepy and scary is what RE needs.

@CorndogBurglar -

I am in the same boat as you! I definitely want something in a horror atmosphere. We have seen what it looks like in the Resident Evil 5/6 sense with nothing but action scenes.

Let’s see the horror and the nightmare.

I wish they'd embrace the original's B-movie sensibilities. Logue would make a great Barry.

Good casting choice for Irons. I think he would have been a better Barry Burton, but it is what it is.

But we still havent heard the most important casting. Who's playing Barry? We gotta get someone here to point out Jill's the master of unlocking and hope that this isn't Chris' blood.
