According to Variety, frequent David Cronenberg collaborator Sarah Gadon will play the female lead in Universal's Dracula movie which will be directed by Gary Shore. Luke Evans (Immortals) has already signed on to play "Prince Vlad", who of course becomes the most famous of vampires, Dracula. Apparently the story will be "a mix of mythology and history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by the Bram Stoker novel." Ordinarily it'd be assumed that the female lead character would be Mina Harker, but this being part origin tale it's not a given that's who Gadon will play. More updates as we have em'. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the script, and the movie has an August 8th, 2014 release date.

@Gmoney that would be sick, if they did a horror shared universe like they did with marvel. Make a a badass frankenstein, dracula, and a werewolf one that doesnt suck like the bencio del toro one and have them all be in the same universe

I want to see a film (or a set of films) made where vampires aren't in the foreground, namely Jim Butcher's "The Dresden Files"

I hate it when they imply that he is Vlad the Impaler like it's impressive or something.

I'm sure he'll have a lost love too. [frick]ing bullshit.

If she's playing a vampire, she could sink her fangs into me any time.

If she's not, she could still bite my neck. And I don't say that about any girl. ;P

I'll be happy if its a vampire movie where vampirism is about being an evil satanic undead and not about some idiotic notions of vampirism being a disease or genetic defect.
