Do you like scary movies?

If so, you probably weren't too impressed by the last couple of Scream movies, but Paramount Pictures is hoping too breath new life into the iconic horror franchise with this fifth instalment, and the first trailer is now online.

The footage begins with yet another recreation of the opening scene from the first movie, but this time Ghostface is armed with some new technology which grants him easier access to his victims. After dispatching the unfortunate Drew Barrymore stand-in, we're off to the races as Dewey Riley (David Arquette) calls up his old friend Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) to inform her that "it's" happening again.

With Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and some new knife-fodder joining the fray, the gang must attempt to figure out the killer's identity before it's too late.

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Neve Campbell (“Sidney Prescott”), Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) and David Arquette (“Dewey Riley”) return to their iconic roles in Scream alongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.

Paramount Pictures teamed with Spyglass Media to co-produce and distribute Scream, which has Ready or Not duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on board to direct. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are co-writing the screenplay. Producers for the film are Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak, with Kevin Williamson executive producing.

What did you guys make of this first trailer? Scream slices its way into theaters next January.

Did the TV show they did every tie in to the movies?

@Relativity - I'd also like to know. Never watched it

@Relativity @TheShape9859 - No. The show and movies were completely unrelated. Although all the characters in the show were basically the same characters from the movies, just with different names lol.

The character in the show was like Sydney. She was relatively innocent compared to everyone around her.

Her mother cheated on her husband and gave up the son she had because of it, who ended up becoming the killer.

There's a nerdy guy that is an expert on horror movies.

It was very similar, but not related in any way.

Hey movie, nice title you have there. Not at all confusing.

@TheFinestSmack - kinda like Halloween is the name of 3 different movies. Stop crying about it

@TheShape9859 - Regardless of the franchise, it’s poor creativity to slap on the original title. It’s a bad gimmick, and it’s getting really old.

@Waddles - I hadn't thought of that. I guess if it is done for meta reasons, that could be cool I guess. If they wanted to do that, they could have gone with "The Scream" haha.

@Benjamitesandwich - Not only poor creativity, but it can be confusing. Especially when it's not a reboot, but a continuation of the series lol.

@Waddles - Thats a really good point. But it's still a weird practice that got started in the first place.

If it's a reboot, I get it. But a sequel? Seems weird.

And even with something like Halloween. At the very least that movie is ignoring everything after the first film. So in a way, it's a reboot, but its still a sequel to the original.

This isn't any of that. It's literally just the 5th film in the franchise. It's rebooting or changing anything. Why not just call all of the sequels Scream? Lol

Damn I like how brutal Ghostface seems to be in this, very much like the first scream. I also like how they seemed to have toned down on the meta horror commentary it started to become overused in the sequels. Sidney and Dewey look great and I'm glad they dont seem to be the main focuse of the killer this time.

I like it, but Scream is not a simple Slasher. I need the producers to honor Wes Craven. The essence...

Looks like they honored the first one by making it scary💀
